how does the Dhanarat course compare with the other courses in Hua Hin. Greens ok ? What about the fairways. I have heard that you can pay a yearly subscription of 8000 THB and then pay a greenfee of 70 THB???? + caddyfee I assume?

I only played Dhanarat once and that was a year and a half ago so may be different now. Then it was just ok in condition, better than the free course in Dolphin Bay, but not nearly as good (fairways or greens) as the premium courses here like Springfield and Lakeview. I was also playing as a guest of a member and fee, cart and caddy were 1100 baht altogether. I'm not sure how that broke out as the member did the transaction at the desk.

I played at the Dhanarat yesterday a walking round cost 620 bht, the fairways in 40% of the areas were very long almost rough. They are doing some remodelling on some of the holes but this didn’t effect me really, the round from hell (again)
I flew out with EVA and was told that if my clubs weigh under 16KG they would be charged at £39 per kilo each way excess baggage this worked out at over £600.00 I decided to leave them at home. I was then talking to guys at check in with clubs flying the same economy flight with EVA and they did not pay nothing I,m really gutted as I,ve just been getting used to a new set of Taylor Made's I,ve hired a set at Dhanarat, does any one know if the other courses hire sets?

Since the courses here are geared towards tourists, I suspect they all do. There are also golf shops downtown where you can rent clubs for your entire stay... not sure which is the cheapest option though.

I played the new course today.

The fairways and rough are in wonderful condition but the sand in the bunkers is poor.

The overall design is good and the whole outlook is very pleasant so all in all a very good addition to Hua Hin golf.

On the critical side I did not like the convoluting hole arrangement and I would never be able to go back through my round hole by hole, as the play lay out goes back and forth amongst other holes previously played.

The caddys' were as poor as I have found in Thailand.

There are three holes with large trees in the middle of the fairway that frankly penalised the good drive.

Beware of the water crossing the fairway in good driving distance on the 18th ( our caddy's said nothing and we fell foul of the water )

The club house is a long way from completion - February?

They charged Bht15 for water and another Bht10 for ice at the drink station.

Overall a big plus but why they only have the white tees in play when all the further back tee box's are ready I do not know.

If you have played it you must know what it is called (I would like to look it up on internet). I have tried but I can't find a name.

How much do you rent your clubs ? Maybe you can rent mines as i don't play too much. I have high quality clubs, custom fitted.

Although the clubhouse is a long way off completion, there is a very good restaurant within the camp on the beach and well worth a visit as the 19th hole.

A large Leo was bht50 and most food (Thai) around the bht50/70 mark - three of us had 6 beers and far too much food at a total cost of around bht600.

This restaurant and beach is very popular with the locals each week end so Mon - Fri may be a good idea.

Is this restaurant easy to find? What is the name of the restaurant?

Yes - drive into the camp and turn left and then right towards the sea as far as you can go past some shops etc( maybe 300 yds) There is parking facing the beach on the right and the restaurant is about 50 yds away. There is no other on the beach front.

NB If you did not turn right you would come to the golf course

Course is called sea pines and played it 3 times last week. Will be in my opinion the best course in hua hin when completed. Very tough from either the back or next tees. Met the designer who also designed sawang and narai hills. 800bht and 250 caddie till the end of the year.
Im sure there are a few courses near by that will be misssing a lot of green fees as this course equals and even surpasses in some areas.
Also being so close to the town makes it very easy to get to.
A great addition to the golfing scene in hua hin and might make some of the other course managers revise the ridiculous prices they are charging during the so called " high season".
