The last time I touched a golf club I did exactly the same as Randy.
I'd given up playing six years before, but one day we were having lunch at the restaurant at the Mongkol driving range when fortified by a Singha or two I decided to have a go.
I borrowed an iron from the range and started on a hundred balls and sure enough, half way through I managed to let go of the club which went a good 10 meters further than the ball.
At that point I decided to stay given up which is a good thing as knocking a small white ball into a hole seems to cost much more than it should in SE Asia.

Earlier this month I played for the first time in ten years, 7.30 am at Black Mountain, just 4 of us nobody else in sight ahead or behind, fantastic, definately will play regularly.
Some years ago I managed to hit my ball minus 20 yards, off the tee I hit the hole description board and saw the ball whizz past my ears, much laughter all round!!

I did the same thing as Randy and Steve when learning the game except I was on a par 3 hitting over water.
The club cart wheeled into the centre of the lake much to the amusement of the four caddies one of which was a boy.
He was immediately volunteered by the girl caddies to retrieve the club and after stripping down to his Marks and Spencers he disappeared into the lake only to reappear a few moments later as the golfing equivalent of Excalibur.

Its an old one and I don't know if its true or not but the story of a guy who walks up the 18th in front of a busy clubhouse, finishes his round and then throws his bag full of clubs into the lake and stomps off to the locker room. A few minutes later he walks back out wades into the water retrieves his clubs and takes them to the bank, takes his car keys out of one of the bags pockets and then throws his clubs back in the lake and walks off. I really hope that it is a true story as I have been so close!!
