Classic nameplate heralds car-chasing action in the film starred by Steve McQueen 50 years ago.
Ford has revived the Bullitt nameplate for the third time in the Mustang’s history to celebrate car-chasing action in the film starred by Steve McQueen 50 years ago.
To make this special edition Mustang arresting, Ford is offering the Bullitt in this classy green colour you see here in official pictures. As well, the pony badges have been removed all over the car and been replaced by the Bullitt letterings instead.
Other bespoke appointments include Recaro seats, 12-inch digital display, snooker ball gear knob and 19-inch alloys housing six-pot red-coloured Brembo brake calipers.
The Bullitt was driven on stage at the 2018 Detroit motor show by Steve’s granddaughter Molly. Yep, it’s a third-gen McQueen in a third-gen Bullitt; the last two Bullitts were made in 2001 and 2008.
Is there more power?
Yes there is. Thanks to modifications made to the ECU and intake and exhaust manifolds, power of the 5.0-litre V8 rises from 460hp to 475hp. The only performance improvement Ford has revealed is the top speed of 260kph, some 12kph higher than the standard model.
Apart from the beefed-up brakes, there’s a Torsen limited slip differential, larger rear anti-roll bar and bigger radiator to deal with the increased power. The sole transmission choice is a manual.
Will there be right-hand-drive?
Although the regular Mustang is available in the right-hand-drive for the first time, Ford hasn’t mentioned whether the Bullitt will also be made in such a format.
All Ford says is that the Bullitt will be made in limited numbers with production starting later this year.
Nevertheless, Thai fans of the Mustang really shouldn’t be turned off with such news because the Bullitt is a special car after all. The only thing they should worry about is where to get such a Mustang which could near the 10 million baht mark if it lands on Thai shores properly taxed.

And there's a road good enough in Thailand for pedal to the metal and hit the speedo endstop?

Re: New Ford Mustang
What a lovely car. With a car like this, no need for pedal to the metal because just the sound and rumble of the engine would keep me more than happy. Nice to see the Americans can still make proper cars.
Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact
Re: New Ford Mustang
If you have the cash and a live near a track that does non-competitive 'track days', the New Ford Mustang is not the car you. You need 2. First is a replica of the '68 Fastback from the movie for street use. Second is a 2016-2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R. No need to buy it new. Plenty of well cared for low mileage used ones. Why? They're street legal track machines. On the street, you endure all the features that make it shine on the track. On the track, well, if you're smart, you know your abilities fall well short of the car's capabilities.
