An average 1.83 million vehicles use the eight expressways each day, up 12.36% over the past three years, according to figures released by the Expressway Authority of Thailand (Exat).

Wichan Ekarubtrakul, Exat’s deputy governor of technical affairs, said average daily usage between October 2016 and July 2017 was 1,829,376 vehicles, compared to 1,617,702 three years ago.

The rising traffic lifted average daily revenue to 70.67 million baht, up from 69.96 million in the previous year and 52.96 million five years ago.

The 38.4 kilometre Si Rat expressway, also known as the 2nd stage expressway, has the highest number of daily users at an average 703,373 vehicles a day, followed by 372,120 vehicles for the 27.1 km Chaloem Maha Nakhon, or the 1st stage, expressway linking Din Daeng and Bang Na.

The expressway authority expects total revenue of 15 billion baht this year, up 10% from 2016, with a projected profit of 9 billion baht.

In the West high rise towers that cater for visitors are always considered a good money spinner. Appears that here expressways are a better investment!

So, they're looking at a 60% yearly profit. Time to reduce tolls in a big way, by about half. Pete
