Immigration letter for buying a car or motorbike
Re: Immigration letter for buying a car or motorbike
BB I am not sure now, both my name and the wife's name is in the book that's all I know
Re: Immigration letter for buying a car or motorbike
If your name is in the blue book something must be wrong. Thai people are registered in the blue book and farangs must be registered in a yellow book.
At least that's what I've been told from Tessabahn..
Bust as long as this is Thailand and nobody knows the rights and wrongs even in the official landscape I might be wrong.
I have both a yellow and a blue book, but only my wife is registered in the blue book.
I'm yellow, just like Bigboy.

jungle, if your wife has a driver's license why don't you buy the car and bike in your wife's name and avoid all this b.s?
Re: Immigration letter for buying a car or motorbike
A driver's license is not a requirement when buying a car, btw...
Re: Immigration letter for buying a car or motorbike
A couple of years ago I went to HH Immy for a letter to buy a bike. I had an almighty set to with the lady officer there who insisted that I needed a Thai license to buy a bike. I had earlier that week been stopped on my rental bike and produced my UK license and International Driving Permit to the BIB who just waved me on. She eventually went to see her boss and came back with my letter.........cost me 500b.
Re: Immigration letter for buying a car or motorbike
I don't understand that. A driving licence whether needed or not has nothing to do with immigration. Their function in this case is to provide proof of residency. And of course a driving licence is not needed to buy any vehicle.

Re: Immigration letter for buying a car or motorbike
So do you need this letter each time you buy a car or a bike or only once ?
Re: Immigration letter for buying a car or motorbike
Each time as they expire. I think valid for 30 days only?

A thanks again for your help guys
Re: Immigration letter for buying a car or motorbike
My name is in the blue book. When I went out to buy a car the last time I did not need any letter, nor did I have to go with my wife.
The only (and maybe big) difference here is that I do have permanent residence.
Do note that the only things you can own here as a non-local is a motor vehicle and/or a condo.

I think we've said this before. If your name is in the Blue Book, you don't need the letter - you effectively do the same as a Thai.

Not strictly true VincentD, We own our house but not the land it stands on, this is leased.
Took a good solicitor to ensure we had value for the money we paid to build the house.
