LOL, thankfully Mrs BB hasn't needed to use it yet. Hopefully, the day that she needs it won't come, but unfortunately I know it will.

I saw a guy use it in MV less than an hour ago. The guard even helped him into his wheelchair, and delivered him to the shopping area entrance.

Probably. As I said before, Mrs BB checked with the customer service desk, and they confirmed that we just have to report to a guard. However, I'm not one to abuse it, and won't try it until my wife needs it. I don't think she'd want to abuse it either.

Well, I've had cause to use the Disabled Parking at last, so thought I'd update the thread.

It wasn't as I'd expected i.e. the OP was for Mrs BB. No, this was for BB Jnr, who is normally fit as a fiddle. He suffered a football injury last weekend, and is totally disabled for 10 days. He's been virtually housebound for a couple of days, so we decided to take him out for lunch.

Arrived at the disabled bay, and nobody even questioned the fact that I was reversing into a restricted bay. Mrs BB went to the enquiries desk, and borrowed a wheelchair with absolutely no hassle.

We arrived at the restaurant, and the waitress saw our approach, and came running to open the door.

Walking around Market Village with a wheelchair was a pleasure. It was like walking on a busy Thai beach with my rottweiler -everybody just got out of the way.

Market Village got 10/10 from me regarding their disabled facilities. I can't compare it with anywhere else because today was my first experience in Thailand.

I was using those bays while my mother was here (92 years old) and was never questioned. I wish they would control them as a couple of times they were full and I have seen very able bodied guys using them. No passengers, just the driver. This happens at weekends when the car park is full. I wish they'd come up with some sort of disabled label to separate the 'entitled' from the 'un-entitled' .

Actually, when you read the notice the bays are also for the pregnant and elderly. Pregnant is easy to define, but elderly will be a very grey area.

After a couple rounds of world war three, plus threatening to have my lawyer(I don't have one) take it up with them, the BigC that I use in Bangkok has now painted a bay with six places marked with disabled signs on the floor, plus employed their own staff of several bods to assist. At least 3 times at that particular place I have come back to my car to find that I could not open the door because there were 4 cars squeezed into space for 3. They evidently were employing a contractor that was just sending young kids to do the job.

In addition to that they now have a place inside the shop near the service desk before entering the actual shop that has a "disabled station". There is a huge disabled sign, several wheelchairs and some seats to use if needed. They will send somebody with you to push the wheelchair and assist with shopping it you require it.

I now have a sticker on both cars thanks to Bluesky. I will try to remember to ask the staff there where they got the sign, although it is too big to use on a car. There are a couple of staff there that know me and speak English. One of them has an ID card stating that she speaks English and her job is to assist anybody that needs it. :thumb:

But, there is still no way that they can stop "me first" that does not need a disabled bay from forcing the young staff into letting them into the reserved bays. :guns:

Here in Bang Saphan the Tesco has 2 reserved handicapped spots. It comes in handy for them when they have promotions selling clothes, cars, etc they simply set up on the handicapped spots. Other days it's open season for whoever wants it.....

Nice to realize this. My gf has been pregnant for about 20 minutes and she is really tired.

I was parked next to a van in a disabled bay at BigC in Bangkok today. A nice big wheelchair emblem on the sliding side door. Could not get to the bottom of it, but the waiting driver was very happy to give me a demo of the hydraulic lift seat that swings out. As far as I could gather, the following phone number MAY be the factory that did the conversion, but it could be worth following up about the sticker. I do not have anyone here at the moment that speaks Thai to call for me. Bangkok landline number: 02 897 5121 to 3

The following is very true:

The missing disability sign: A look into disability rights in Thailand

http://www.chiangmaicitylife.com/cityli ... -thailand/

There are too many disabled people in this neighbourhood and they’re bringing down the housing prices. They need to leave.
This was the message conveyed to Don Willcox, his wife Piranan Singjai, and the members of his wheelchair workshop, by his neighbour, an elderly woman who was trying to sell the house opposite their property.

According to Don and Piranan, the request was far from politely-worded.
“She didn’t just say she disliked disabled people,” says Piranan. “She said she hated them.” The neighbour’s dissatisfaction was to such an extent that the case was taken to the local authorities, who allowed the workshop to remain in its place. The foundation hasn’t heard from the woman since. ........................................>>>>>>

^ You hear stories from time to time about people with a mouth and attitude like that who themselves eventually end up in the same condition they were earlier complaining about. I guess you can call it fate, what goes around - comes around, or a few other ways. One can only hope. Pete

I'm quite pleased that most major service stations have disabled parking near the toilets which also have a disabled facility. Not for me but a boon when my mother is visiting. However, I'm a little bemused that a pink parking space has appeared next to the disabled ones for women only. Does that mean women are in the same category and are unable to walk more than a short distance to the loo??!!!

Many Tesco supermarkets in Bangkok have pink "lady" parking bays. Some also are marked for mothers with babies. Not sure what happens if fathers take the baby shopping.

Found some "proper" disabled stickers today at Thai Watsadu. In Bangkok, but I assume other branches will have them.
90mm x 120mm blue on white with a wheelchair symbol, and includes a strip of double sided tape. I think they are meant to be put on toilet doors and such places, but the same as the ones I have and they certainly work.

All of 26 Baht each! :thumb:
