Word of Warning after Hitting Soi Dog

Post by StevePIraq »

Word of Warning.
I hit a Soi dog on Saturday and took a tumble, broke two ribs, bad abrasions on left arm from shoulder to fingers, same with left leg from knee to ankle. My face would have been torn up pretty bad with my head smacking the concrete a few times and the visor badly scratched, my face would have been a mess if no helmet,(some may say an improvement)

Do the right things guys:
Have fully comprehensive insurance (available from AA Insurance) not just the government insurance.
Wear a good helmet not the 300Baht ones.
Don't be tempted to go shirtless and shoeless
Wear shoes not sandals, my sport shoes ripped apart but they saved my toes.
Wear gloves.
I know we should all wear jackets and trousers but also realize it's damned hot here.
Stay safe.

Pleased that you escaped in one piece, scratched and dented but still alive to tell the tale (tail)
Wish you a speedy recovery.

Very good advice, especially the insurance. Good medical care and being off work ain't cheap. If you can find the Soi dog, good boots will come in handy for another purpose!

There really should be an authority to report Soi dogs to, if not running in front of vehicles so of them even attack people. The Soi dog problem in HH is out of control.

In Pattaya they have a program for capturing and neutering them, not the best but at least something

Agreed not the best, but certainly a lot more humane than some of the suggestions that have appeared on the forum!!

I would have thought that with the Buddhist culture and mai pen rai toward soi dogs and temple dogs it would be very difficult to remove them. Control them would be better received I would think.
I'm glad you survived your collision, my oldest brother would still be walking the planet if he'd worn a helmet but sadly he and the Thai guy involved in the collision both lost their lives 6 years ago on Samui, neither were wearing helmets.

If we do not try to change things nothing will ever change, so I am prepared to give it a go

First day of the month reminds me of southern Morocco. The police get up early and drive round town shooting every street dog they see. Usually a couple of 9mm and a twelve gauge for runners. A junior officer will collect the corpses and throw them in the back of the truck. I like dogs but motorbikes are expensive in Africa. There is much less shit too.

I would support this method, it sounds efficient
