Having driven in this country for 24 years and watched the standards of driving get worse and worse, the selfishness get more and more and the ever continuing "couldn't give a toss unless I can make a buck out of it attitude of the BIB" - I remain totally convinced that as long as I've got a hole up my ar5e - NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE.

^^ I am so sorry but.... I have to agree. My weekend migration to HH gets worse, week by week. The crazies were in abundance today as were the budding Schumachers. I passed several parked police patrol cars who totally ignored the bloody obvious idiots. I'm not sure what they were doing, probably waiting for the next convoy of VIP busses that they could escort in the outside lane, friggin idiots, blocking or slowing all normal traffic.

That will be 20 years after you are buried Terry

These things seem to come in waves, one minute it's carrying passports, next it is wearing helmets, then speed checks and overstays on visa's ETC.
It seems it is all down to how the local police commander feels when he wakes up in the morning. The Thais and foreigners know this and always chance their arm, in the hope of not getting caught.

The real problem is the lack of consistency in enforcing the laws in Thailand. That and the Thais and Farangs attitude to obeying the laws.
BB and others have said on so, so, many occasions, keep within the law and you won't get fined and hope that the driver of the motorcycle, lorry or car that hits you, is insured.

Anyway, with more and more cars on the road in Thailand, soon, you will not be able to go fast enough to have an accident.
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Foreigners driving into Thailand to face strict curbs

https://ethailand.com/breaking-news/for ... n=Outbrain

Thailand plans to enforce stricter controls on foreigners driving into Thailand in future, especially tourists who drive motor homes, motorcycles and other vehicles into the country particularly in the north.

As reported by the Bangkok Post, the vehicles present problems in terms of accidents and ecological damage, according to Land Transport chief Sanit Phromwong. He added that the ban is intended to enforce order and allow only some types of vehicles to enter the country for a limited time.

The order will also limit the number of people who can drive vehicles into Thailand from neighbouring countries such as China, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Vietnam, say officials. Apparently Chinese tourists enjoy driving their cars into Thailand without any prior agreement, but that may not happen in future.

Vehicles with a total of 9 seats and pickups with a maximum weight of 3,500 kg will be allowed to travel in Thailand, but those motorists will also need to apply for permission and have their vehicles checked by the Thai authorities. Requests to drive must be made 10 days before a trip, said Mr Sanit, with officials in the border provinces having the authority to decide whether to grant special permission cards.

These permits must then be displayed inside the owners’ vehicles in clear view, and will cost 500 baht each, allowing the driver to drive in the province they entered into only, and for a maximum of 30 days. In one year, the total number of days Thai roads cannot exceed 60 days.

If foreign vehicles are found to have broken the law, the mistakes will be recorded and sent to transport officials, who may then decide whether the vehicles in question will be allowed back into Thailand in future.

The new regulations will not apply to vehicles from Laos, Malaysia and Singapore, as Thailand has existing pacts on international car usage with those countries.

A phrase comes to mind with the words 'pot', 'kettle' and 'black'.

Thailand, with the worst traffic safety in SE Asia, where people drive without licences, insurance or any training. It really makes the authorities in Thailand appear very stupid!

I knew it, its the burmese day labororers, not THai drivers, who cause all the accidents with their careless driving.
