Post by lizzy »

After a brief respite the road works on Soi 88 are starting again. I am told they will last 6 months this time!

They will be working from the railroad crossing up. The road is marked up with paint, wooden frames and there were cones at 8:30 this morning. A digger was down by the Honda bike garage.
All residents of Horizons had a copy of a message from the commune in Thai and we had a very basic English translation.

Dear all members,

The Hua Hin Municipality to improve surface traffic from Soi 88, the railroad crossing at the intersection came almost to the entrance of the village of Hua Hin Horizon. And is expected to take approximately six months in operation. As a result, causing inconvenience to commuters. So let members take such precautions.

Thank you for posting this!!! It is going to be dreadful for the coming months if the first part of Soi 88 is anything to go by.

Ouch!!! It'll be worth it in the end, but another 6 months pain so soon after the last batch will be a lot to take.

We all know that the various road works in HH are long overdue but at least the, current local, administration appear to want to make a difference and get back on track. It's catchup time but we all know that it's needed and will be appreciated when finished. But as Micaelangelo was once asked about the Sistine Chapel...."When will it be finished"?

It'll never be finished. I think it's an unwritten rule that every Thai roads must have at least X number of nasty bumps. Most roads are achieving this by not joining the old road to the new road evenly.

They made a huge mistake with the Soi 88/Hin Lek Fai junction - it was perfect. So what did they do? They put a speed bump where the 2 roads join, and have then hand carved some very bumpy trenches for no reason other than to remind us that we're in Thailand. :?

Don't you good folk start getting all giddy just yet!..I rode down 88 this teatime, & IMO the width of the cut they've made smacks of a pipe-laying project...that may mean afterwards..either a completly new surface right across the span of the road..OR a crappy, rough, bumpy, lumpy botch-job 2m wide along the full length.. :banghead:
