Touch Up paint!!

Post by Davy B »

A friend of mine has just bought a brand new White Toyota pick-up and already some kind person has walloped it with a shopping trolley in the Makro Car park. Can anyone give me details of a shop that does the touch-up paints. Toyota are hopeless and don`t even have a body and spray shop and we have been up and down Phetkasem Road and up several soi`s looking without success. Thank you.

It is not just touch up paint but also car accessories such as seat covers, car audio and trolley jacks, tow bars and roof racks etc. If I could find a shop that had things that you could get in a Halfords in the UK I would be in heaven!!

I also visited a Toyota main dealer to obtain touch-up paint and they do not have any such product. I do not know of any good motor outlets, of the kind we're used to in UK and elsewhere but others who are more familiar with Hua Hin than I am, may be more helpful and point out some reasonable shops. Thailand does not have the same concept of well-run motor accessory shops and many make do with the booth-style outlets at the shopping centres, such as at Big-C, none of which offer quality or a good range.

I advise against the accessory shop in the basement of Market Village, on the motorcycle parking side of the floor. I recently bought White Pearl paint and it's closer to silver than white. Try Big-C as you will certainly find it. Also Brasso is good for removing scratches, in the absence of having T-Cut.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately it is down to the metal and is not a scratch otherwise t-cut would have been used. I will continue the search for the holy grail.......

I'm fairly sure I've seen them in the Wednesday Evening Cha Am market, I don't go that often but if I can get there next week, I'll provide an update.

Davy, if it's a new car, why not get it done properly? When the :cuss: ran his motorcycle along my door in Pattaya when my car was only a few weeks old, it only cost me 3,500 Baht to have it restored to new.

Touch up paint is often ugly.

The problem with modern automotive paints is that most of them are 2 pack with clear coat over the base. To get a match it is necessary to take it down pretty much to bare metal, and then apply a new top coat after the touch up. So that the new blends in with old(er), it usually involves repairing one whole panel.

The going rate in Bangkok to do this is 4,000 Baht per normal car size panel.

Check with the insurance company and get it done at their approved paint shop. Doing this on insurance won't affect the policy renewal much, if at all.

When I bought my Isuzu Adventure, it came with two pots of touch up paint, dark blue and gold. However I cant imagine using them for an invisible finish.
