As I mentioned earlier in this thread..when having the thrust bearing done in BKK just 1 week after my Ranger's 160,000 service at HH Ford (& paying for new oil) the guys at the BKK engine repair place told me no way was the oil only 1 week old.
Many times after a service/oil-change..IF there's a slight drip from ther sump-plug I'd suspect the mechanic of not replacing the copper-washer with a new one.
Also, due to the stupid angle that many filters sit on the engine, when changing filters oil always runs down the side of the housing..if not cleaned off, this old oil MAY drip later..??
Hope (again) you get sorted B.B.

Not a chance in hell could you run a thousand miles with no oil in the sump.

Years ago similar claims though not 1000 miles were made by the makers of molyslip, what people found out in fact was indeed it did coat all moving parts but it also left a thick coat of hard gunge all over the internal workings.

When we had to do a simple head gasket job we would also clean the rocker shaft and internals due to this build up.some of it you would scrape off with a screwdriver.

Nowadays if you use a quality synthetic oil there is no need to even consider additives.

Bear in mind that with a diesel the oil blackens much faster than a petrol engine so on an oil change unless you flush the engine your new oil will discolour very quickly.

Judging from this disastrous experience at Ford Hua Hin, with BB's pick-up and also not changing the gearbox oil in another poster's comment, I feel that these examples of unacceptable service often narrow-down our choices for new purchases, almost to the point of not wanting to purchase anything at all.

Based on what we would all perceive to be the minimal required standards in the West or in more developed regions, I think it's clear at times that as good as they often are, the Thais sometimes have difficulty delivering that minimal standard.

It's good that it has been resolved, but should you need to spend all that amount of time writing letters and correspondence, just to get an acceptable result?

I have been deliberating for some time whether to have a Ford Everest or a Ford Fiesta. With eventual plans to leave Thailand, and therefore not wanting to spend more than I need to at the moment, I couldn't really decide, although I like the Everest a lot and if I was planning to stay here, that's what I'd prefer.

Sadly, reading some of the experiences on this thread has been enough to put me off Ford Hua Hin completely.

Is it possible to have a car under warranty serviced in another province?

thebears,

Although I was very annoyed (justifiably in my opinion), I was probably partly to blame. To me, the biggest problem at Ford, Hua Hin was the lack of English speakers. I don't/won't speak much Thai (a long story), so I had to speak through my wife. I am sure that bits were lost in translation, and I'm positive my inner feelings were not conveyed. If I could have spoken to them direct, I'm sure things would have been better. When they made the comment, "We always get problems from Farangs," I think every non-Thai speaking Farang must have similar problems. This is why when writing to all and sundry, I requested mediation, rather than blood.

As we are often reminded, we are in a foreign country, and maybe we should make more of an effort.

With the exception Honda, we have not really had much feedback on other dealers, so there is nothing to compare with. Ford may actually be a lot better than their rivals.

richard,

Definitely yes. I was considering Petchaburi, but then realised it would be me that had to spend an hour each way driving there, I would be paying for the fuel and what would I do in a town like Petchaburi while waiting for the work to be done.

BB, I have a Pajero Sport and use the Mitsubishi garage in HH. The office staff speak some English although I have to rely on my wife to translate at times, but I've never had any major issues with them when getting my car serviced.

As for using Ford at Petchaburi, you could always have a coffee and a piece of cake while you're waiting and maybe a peace of mind?

It would seem HH Toyota are not much better..talking to a customer this week, he'd taken his newish Vigo for it's 10,000km service there.
Him & his Thai wife took the option to sit and wait while the work was done..(as many do).
When he walked to his pick-up (after paying & been handed the keys)..lots of the black coating on his 'nudge bar' had been scraped off!
Plus when his good-lady went to sit in the passenger side..her seat was covered in oil..!!
Yes I think he DID go ballistic with the manager! (never got to hear the outcome tho').

I think we should be very careful when acting purely on others isolated comments. For sure it seems that Ford have work to do as they are a relatively new brand in Hua Hin. I am sure there are stories about Toyota but look at how many of their cars are around. I used their Cha Am dealership to service my Hilux years ago and never had any complaints. I have a Vios bought in Hua Hin and have no complaints either. Happy people don't complain and rarely compliment so when reading negative posts it is worth comparing their quantity to the amount of the particular product that is in use.
Good to see that BB's problems seem to be sorted and hopefully the dealer will take note that not only BB but many others are aware and their work will be scrutinised by the many subscribers to this forum who own or are thinking about owning a Ford. I see a new Mercedes dealer is preparing to open soon near the airport so I wonder how many complaints there will be about their service.

I doubt that you will read about many complaints on this forum, I know it's not farang exclusive, but not many farangs will be able to afford to buy a Merc?

I post this as I have a gut feeling they may be a good outfit. Why?...because they go to the trouble of having an English language hotline at each of their dealerships. If driving into Bangkok or near their other locations with your Ford, maybe stop in for a quick oil change and see how they operate? Pete

An old thread, but you were right JW. A kind young lady reversed her car into my truck today. Bumper slightly out of line, and a few scratches, but her little Toyota had its arse hanging off. Fortunately, she was insured, a Real Estate Agent's company car

So it looks like another new bumper.
