If I were you I'd look for another dealer perhaps up in Cha-Am for your service needs. Those Hua Hin people will probably try something on each and every time they see you in the future. If you stick their nose in it now concerning the accessory labour charge, they won't forget. Regardless, I would indeed stick their nose in it. Pete

BB your tray liner will come in black and already painted and is the only colour that they come in. If their brochure says inclusive of fitting charges, then I can only assume the extra money they are trying to extract for you is the 7% VAT.

Working out roughly that would mean that you chrome bar and tray liner would have to have cost you about 41,000baht, which to me even here in Australia seems to be very excessive.

No, I've paid the VAT, and the liner was supposedly free anyway.

BB I think they are having a lend of you.
If it happened here in Australia you would write a letter to both the dealer principal (by passing who it is that is wanting to charge you at present) and cc the letter to Ford Motor Company customer service manager in charge of sales

Make a detailed letter of what you have paid for, what was free and and exactly who is wanting to charge you the extra money. Send copies to each person of all your receipts and any letters asking for extra payments.

By going over the peoples heads you are dealing with now, that member of staff should have to account to the Dealer Principle reasons for the extra payments and what they are for.

You may be quietly suprised with the outcome if you involve senior people instead of the floor staff.

Many times I have gone by company policies only to be overidden by the manufacture bowing to pressure from the customer, so is worth a try and see what the outcome is.

I am going to try to escalate when they collect me to go to pick up my car, but I know that they are going to use the language card. However, I have showed the brochure statement to Mrs BB, and she is now on my side .......... at the moment.

Yes do not say anything before they fit them and are hardly likely to take them off if there is a problem.
Just ask to speak with the Dealer Principle that normally works, as most will not want the wrath of their boss to be put on them

 Well, they collected me and Mrs BB as planned(ish) - 45 minutes late, but I've been aware of Thai time for over 20 years.

I took one look at my beautiful baby, and totally lost it (believe me, it is extremely rare for me to lose control the way I did today). 5 months ago, when I ordered my extras, I was very explicit in describing the liner that I wanted i.e. one that curved over the sides of the rear bucket. I went through many publicity photos showing them what I wanted, and even took the salesman to the Test Vehicle, because it had the specific liner that I wanted. What had they given me? A 3/4 height liner :cuss:

I didn't have to ask to see the guy in charge - he came to see what all of the fuss was ...... immediately followed by loads of BS. They told me that it was not safe to use a full liner in conjunction with a Sports Bar. I then marched the manager and the salesman around the showroom showing them all of the publicity photos depicting exactly what I required. The manager said, "They made those photos to sell cars." :? No matter what I said, they were adamant that it would not be safe to fit a full liner with a Sports Bar. I asked why they hadn't told me this when I ordered the Sports Bar - I'd spent a lot of time that day explaining what I wanted. No answer, just that it wouldn't be safe.

The safety issue was that the fitting bolts on the Sports Bar were not long enough to give adequate security if used with a full liner. I suggested using longer bolts, but they looked at me as if I was stupid (maybe I was - I've already admitted to my lack of mechanical ability).

They asked me if I wanted the Sports Bar removed, and a full liner fitted - of course I'd have to pay, and there would be no refund on the unusable Sports Bar. Eventually, I agreed (very reluctantly) to take it as it was. Actually, it doesn't look too bad - just not what I'd asked for.

They took me back inside the showroom, still steaming, and got me to sign a few papers. The cashier then punched a few keys on her calculator, and turned it my way - 6145.90. Acting dumb, I said what's that? She said it was my bill for today (NB these guys are all talking Thai, with my dear wife translating - not an easy job while I'm on a rant). They had already said on the phone that it would be 2990 Baht ......... time to lose it again!!

"What do you want me to pay for?"

"Parts and labour."

"But I've paid, and your website and brochures say ........" at this point the salesman intervened and backed my up, agreeing that I had paid. A long discussion in Thai ensued, and I went walkabout. Eventually I was invited to join the group again. The cashier punched a few more keys, and this time it read 1760.90.

I again asked what the 1760 Baht was for, to which they replied again, "Parts and Labour."

I pointed out again what their website said, and I then told them that I was going to take this to Ford Head Office, and would like a detailed receipt showing exactly what I was having to pay for.

1000 Baht was for a piece of cable to connect the brake light on the Sports Bar, and 600 Baht was for labour. I can only guess that the 160 Baht was for VAT - it certainly wasn't explained.

I reluctantly paid (in the grand scheme of things, it wasn't a lot - it was the principal). 4 of them then walked (escorted?) me to the car. Before I got in, the salesman explained that the electrician had gone to Bangkok for a meeting that day, so the 1000 Baht cable hadn't been connected. I would have to give them the car again next Wednesday :?

The above is just a short synopsis of what went on, but I was not a happy bunny, and the encounter lasted for 90 minutes.

While I absolutely love this car (it is the first car that has ever fitted my bulk so comfortably, and I've driven many different models), I fear for the day that something goes seriously wrong with it. If it has taken 5 months to obtain the wrong plastic liner, how long would a new engine or gearbox take to get hold of? Their website actually states that they guarantee any part within 24 hours, or it's free - so where did the 5 months wait for my extras come from, and why have I had to pay?

BB. just looked at the Thai Ford Ranger website and if you look at all the accessory options on the site, unfortunately it does state that that sports bar can only be used with what I am thinking you are referring to as the 1/2 size tray liner
http://www.ford.co.th/en/trucks/new-ran ... 8936317038

If I am wrong, then I apologise but I can see with what you have ordered, they seem to be giving you the correct option. Perhaps that should have been explained when you purchased, but I would imagine if that info is on the website it would have been in any hard copy brochure that you looked at and they probably assumed that you were aware of the fact as you ordered both together.

I know why you want the full tray, but seems not the correct option. Have a look in the dealership or if you see any others around and see how they are fitted. Just to put your mind at rest.

The reason you would not be able to fit that bar with the full liner is that the Sports Bar would have to be mounted to a metal surface and not via the tray liner. If mounted through the liner, when the bar is tightened to a safe torque for people to hang on to, the liner would probably crack and then you would be up for a new one.

Have a look and see if you agree, if not go on with your complaint.

That is it chelsea, and fits exactly with what they are saying. As I said, it doesn't actually look too bad.

My biggest gripe is the constant lies that I've been told, and this was at the end of a long line of them. When I ordered the Sports Bar, you won't believe the trouble I went to explaining exactly what I wanted. The salesman, rather than disagree, and explain why I couldn't have it simply agreed, and told me that is what I would get. This final lie was probably the straw that broke the camel's back.

I still don't understand why so much Ford publicity documentation for the Ranger shows the full liner together with the Sports Bar.

One other thing that was said by the manager yesterday, that I didn't report previously, "We ALWAYS have trouble when a Farang buys a new car." I wonder why?

Hot off the press - my daughter has just read the 'Thai' Extras brochure, and it says fitting is extra. Obviously a translation problem TIT.

BB at least you are slowly getting to the bottom of things now and they look to be getting there slowly. Suppose it is the patience testing processes that are different to doing business in Thailand as opposed to Australia or the UK.
When I get a chance, I will look at the Australian Ford website and see if there is anything similar shown on there. I have access to the Australian Ford Media Centre, so can probably find a bit more than most people would be able to.
If I find anything I will post it.
