LOPBURI DRIVER SPEEDS BUS INTO TRUCK, DIES
A bus and truck collided with each other Wednesday evening, injuring 20 and killing the bus driver.

The bus was carrying factory workers when it crashed into a Toyota truck just before 8pm in Wang Muang district. Bus driver Samruay Bampen, 67 – who some passengers blamed for causing the accident – was killed.

“The bus crashed into the truck. People in the bus said the bus ran a red light, but we will have to pull security tapes to make sure,” police Lt. Col. Suwet Muangtong said Thursday morning. “Two people were critically injured, and one died.”

Most of the bus passengers were female employees of the Lopburi branch of Minibea Co. Ltd., a Japanese company that manufactures machinery and electrical components.

Emergency officials sent the injured to Phatthana Nikhom Hospital. Suwet said neither driver was drunk.

Police investigators said the truck was waiting at a red light when the bus drove through the intersection at high speed as the signal was changing. The truck, whose driver survived, had just entered the intersection on a green light. The bus rolled after crashing into the truck.

Busload of students crashes into ravine

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... nto-ravine

PRACHIN BURI - A double-decker coach carrying students on a field trip plunged off the road and into a ravine in Na Di district about 4.30am on Thursday, killing six and injuring 43 others.

The high school students were travelling from Khon Kaen province to Chanthaburi.

The blue Scania bus, licence number 30-1027 registered in Ubon Ratchathani, had picked up 44 students and six teachers from Pungtuipattanasuksa School in Nam Phong district of Khon Kaen, where they had all gathered to make merit before leaving.

The bus was heading for the Khung Kraben Bay Royal Development Study Centre in Chanthaburi. The trip was a reward for the students after completing their final exams.

The bus ran off the narrow road in the dark at a 45-degree curve on a downhill section of Highway 304 (Nakhon Ratchasima-Na Di), in the area where Khao Yai and Thap Lan national parks adjoin, said Pol Lt Col Mongkol Chanploy, a deputy superintendent of Wang Khon Daeng police.

The wrecked coach came to a stop in a ravine about 20 metres below the highway. Three teachers and two students died at the scene. Forty-four others were rushed to Nadi Hospital and Kabin Buri Hospital.  Another teacher succumbed to injuries at Nadi Hospital.

The 33-year-old driver of the coach, identified as Wandee Phumphuang, fled.

Why is there no campaign by thinking Thais to insist upon a professional driving license, commercial license, chauffeurs license...whatever they want to call it here. Any person responsible for transporting the public (especially children) and drivers of commercial freight vehicles should need to have one, and go through schooling to get one, and regularly scheduled re-certification.

I've never once seen an article about this and as far as I know drivers are recruited from the rice fields, or perhaps have experience driving a bloody farm tractor! :guns:

If it's the Hi-So company owners who don't want to go to the trouble and expense of recruiting and maintaining properly trained drivers, fine, let them continue to be responsible for killing off their Thai population a few at a time, and making the country look like a fool in the eyes of the world. Really disgusting. :( Pete

@prcscct: because this is Ting Tong Land, nothing will ever be done in your lifetime to reduce accident, get people to follow the law, make the police enforce the law, stop corruption, or anything else.
You just have to accept things as they are in Ting Tong Land and not expect things to change.

Police family killed in highway collision

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... -collision

CHAIYAPHUM - A police officer, his wife and teenage son were killed when their vehicle crashed head-on with a truck carrying chemicals in Muang district on Thursday night.

The accident occurred around 9.30pm near kilometre marker 113-114 on Highway 201, the Chaiyaphum-Sikhiu route, in tambon Nong Nasaeng, said Pol Lt Kantheera Charnpana, a deputy chief investigator at Muang police station.

Emgency units sent to the scene found a black pickup  with Bangkok licence plates crushed under the front of the 10-wheel truck.

The dead bodies of the pickup driver and two other people were inside the trapped wreck. It took rescuers two hours to free the bodies.

The three victims were all family. They were identified as Pol Snr Sgt Maj Boonma Leelamuang, 40, his wife Sawittri, 35, and their son Yanwut, 13. All were from Nakhon Ratchasima’s Kaeng Sanam Nang district.

The injured truck driver, Chakkraphan Thaicharoen, 29,  was also trapped in the cabin of his vehicle, which was carrying tanks filled with chemicals. Several of the containers were thrown onto the road by the force of the crash. The injured driver was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The fatal accident occurred during a thunderstorm. Gusting winds uprooted several roadside trees and damaged many houses in Muang district.

Police were investigating.

Apart from advising of yet more accidents and deaths this is a pointless thread.

We chatted about this earlier in the week. If I watched those Thai channels at 0600 each morning I would go into a deep depression that I may never come out of. Over time the whole issue stops being a  and a :guns: , and turns into something that can really be psychologically damaging IMO. :(
