Another van crash in Phang-nga leaves a Swedish tourist, 2 Thais injured
A passenger van with seven Swedish tourists on board crashed into the back of a 10-wheel truck on Phetkasem highway in Takua Thung district of Phang -nga province on Wednesday morning, injuring three persons, including a tourist.

The rear-end truck crash was the second accident of its kind within 24 hours on the same highway when a passenger van with Chinese tourists rammed at the rear-end of a 18-wheel trailer truck, killing a Chinese and the Thai driver, and seriously injured 7 others yesterday morning in Kok Loi district of Phang-nga province.

The latest rear-end truck crash happened while the passenger van was taking the tourists from Phang-nga to Phuket International airport to catch a flight back home.

But with unknown cause, the van crashed into the back of the truck, injuring the Thai driver, a Thai guide and a Swedish tourist.

Bus crash injures 39 people in Ayutthaya

A double-deck tour bus with 50 students and teachers crashed into a roadside rest pavillion in Nakhon Luang district of Ayutthaya before dawn Thursday injuring 39 people, one seriously.

The bus was taking 50 students and teachers of Ban Nonyai school in Kamphaengphet province to Chonburi province in a school excursion.

The bus left Kamphaengpet at 11.00pm.

But as the bus arrived near Kilometre 26 on the Asian Highway in Nakhon Luang district where it was raining, it skidded.

The bus then fell off the highway, flipped over and ploughed into the roadside rest pavillion.

I read the article early this morning about the 15 deaths travelling in the double-decker bus, there were no photographs published then. The headline now reads "Carnage in Korat",along with the photographs surely there has to be someone in authority looking at this scenario, and thinking,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,again, and again and again,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,its totally unbelievable.Or,blank it out and regretfully say "TIT".

Crazy thing is, we've just had friends leave us yesterday, going to Bangkok and Chiang Mai next. They've opted for bus, because they don't feel safe flying..

They may have a point as I found this on the internet from 2016.

It’s well-known that Thailand’s airlines have frequent issues, and a new rating report has confirmed that four Thai airlines rank among the lowest in the world, in terms of safety.

The website AirlineRatings.com has released their annual survey that awarded 407 airlines around the world with star ratings, from one to seven. A one-star rating is the lowest and a seven-star rating is the highest. The airlines are rated based on a slew of factors related to safety.

148 airlines won the coveted seven-star rating and Australian carrier Qantas was named the safest airline in the world for the third year running.

However, 50 didn’t do so well and earned three stars or less.

In Thailand, Nok Air got a two-star rating, the lowest of all the Thai carriers. AirAsia Thailand, Bangkok Airways and Orient Thai Airlines did only slightly better with three stars each.

Thai Airways (and their subsidiary Thai Smile) and Thai Lion were the Thai “winners” with just four out of seven stars.

The stars are given out based on many factors that include crash records, safe landings, certifications, inclusion on international aviation blacklists and more.

The fact is that Thai roads are very dangerous as their 2nd worst fatality records shows, bus and van drivers are often not properly trained or their driving records logged properly, so the risk that they drive longer than they should.

What do they say, “caught between a rock and a hard place”?

Didn't realise that they are already using autonomous buses here:
He said all were asleep when the double-deck bus arrived at the scene and lost balance and fell off the road.
The bus then fell off the highway, flipped over and ploughed into the roadside rest pavillion.
Lost in translation has nothing to do with BS reporting like this.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

Daily bus carnage bulletin ...

Bus crash killed two, injured six in Krabi
Two people were killed and six others were injured when a tour bus crashed into a pickup truck at an intersection in Ao Luek district of Krabi province on Friday night (March 23).

The double-deckor tour bus, belonging to Chanasit Tour Co in Phuket, was on the way to pick up tourists at Krabi international airport.

The driver, Udomsak Thongorapglgasri, 40, drove the bus to the airport from Phuket, taking his family who included his wife, 3-year-old son and 3-month-old daughter, and a busboy.

The pickup truck was driven by Viroj Kijakarn, 48. He was travelling in the truck with two friends.

Witnesses told the police that when the bus arrived at the intersection, the pickup truck emerged from the opposite way and collided with the tour bus.

It was not immediately known if it was the pickup truck or the bus which ran a red light at the intersection.

The impact of the collision sent the two vehicles to veer off the road and hit roadside and power poles shophouses. A brief fire also sparked in the engine room of the badly damaged bus.

Thammanoon Phutthama, the 3-year-old son of the bus driver and Viroj, the pickup truck driver were killed at scene.

All six persons in the bus and truck were also injured. They were pulled out of the wrecks of the vehicles and were rushed to Ao Luek hospital.

Actual cause of the fatal accident was under investigation, police said.

Another day in Thailand, another bus explodes ...

Bus crash, fire kills 21 migrant workers
A bus loaded with Myanmar workers crashed and burned in Tak province Friday morning, killing 21 passengers.

Another 27 of the passengers managed to escape the inferno, but were injured and taken the hospital. Their condition was unknown.

Reports from Tak province said the chartered bus was carrying about 50 Myanmar workers from Mae Sot province to the Nava Nakorn Industrial Zone in Pathum Thani after they had completed registration of their work permits.

The migrants were among thousands who successfully completed lengthy, difficult work-permit registration at the Labour Ministry.

The accident occurred at Kilometre 60 on Highway 12, at the Taksin Maharat National Park in tambon Mae Thor.

First reports said that the engine of the bus caught fire which spread quickly through the vehicle.

Police said the bus was carrying 48 Myanmar workers, in addition to the Thai driver and his wife.

Police said the fire was so intense that identifying the dead would require experts. One officer at the scene told a Bangkok Post reporter he could not distinguish between male and female corpses.

It's amazing that these kind of things don't give the Thailand bad reputation like when someone says Thailand has a lot of sex-tourism. Well, at least the government doesn't think so. :(

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... recent_box
The Bangkok-Chiang Rai bus came to a halt in the ditch after hitting roadside trees on Ngao-Song Road in tambon Ban Phong of Lampang province when police and a rescue team arrived at the scene after being reported at around 5am, said Pol Capt Supachai kanthawong, deputy investigation chief at Ngao police station.
A police investigation found that the bus, carrying 32 passengers, left Mor Chit bus terminal at around 8pm on Thursday to head for Chiang Rai. When the bus reached the scene, it suddenly skidded off the road and plunged into the roadside ditch.
Police believed bus driver Monthian Naksawat, 57, who was among the injured, dozed off at the wheel on the long trip
So what the hell do they think the driver was likely to do after driving all ****ing night! The brainless idiots that allow this type of thing to happen should be charged with first degree murder! :guns:

No deaths with this one, but a good example of the useless police.

Couple flee police on foot after car chase, crash

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... recent_box

SONGKHLA: A man and a woman escaped on foot after surviving driving through a police checkpoint, a road chase and a crash that tore their car in half in Hat Yai district late on Thursday night.

Their silver Honda Civic, registered in Songkhla, failed to stop when signalled at a checkpoint on Chote Wiriyakul Road near a bus terminal in Hat Yai municipality about 11pm.

Police set off in pursuit and about 5 kilometres down the road found the car wrecked in a ditch. It had apparently hit and knocked down a power pole on the median strip of the main highway in Muang Ba Phru municipality, and was broken in two.

Police did not see the driver or passenger, but found two ID cards in the vehicle - for Peerapong Khunpet, 36 of Songkhla, and Walaiporn Srisuwan, 23 of Nakhon Si Thammarat province - and an entry keycard and door key for room 414 at Chudchada Place apartment building in Hat Yai.

There were also traces of blood at the scene. Police found nothing illegal in the car, and assumed the couple had a friend pick them up at the crash scene.

Pol Col Kittichai Sangkhathaworn, chief of Hat Yai police, went to Chudchada Place but the owner did not allow police to search the room. He said the two people would be summonsed for questioning.
................................................................................................................
I would love to see the owner try that in Australia, or any western country for that matter!
