19 students hurt in van crash during heavy rain
I notice one of the students was thrown out of the van, I suppose because of no seat belt. How do you put seat belts on 19 kids? The operators of these things should have criminal charges bought against them, and after they get out of jail expect to be shot by an angry parent! :guns:

Falling container flattens car, driver survives

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... recent_box

The driver of a Honda sedan had a lucky escape when a large shipping container fell off a truck on an expressway and landed squarely on top of a car below on Nakhon In Road in Nonthaburi around noon on Wednesday.

The bone-chilling incident occurred on the road under the Kanchanapisek expressway between Wong Wian Bang Khun Kong and Kanchanapisek Road.

The container fell from a trailer truck at a curve on the expressway about 12.15pm, and landed flush on top of the Honda Civic car on the road beneath, Thai media reported.

The car driver survived with only minor injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. The sedan, which has Bangkok licence plates, is clearly a write-off.

No other details were known.

I always try and keep clear of those container trucks. This is not the first time that this has happened, they are just as likely to drive around without locking the pins.

I'm surprised it does not happen more often, as I would not be exaggerating in saying I see more unlocked than locked.

When I have been on the bus to Bkk and stuck in traffic I too have wondered if these were secured as I couldn't see any obvious signs of that.

13 tourists injured in van’s plunge into Doi Ang Khang ravine
Thirteen Thai tourists were injured, four of them in serious condition, after a passenger van in which they were travelling on the way back from Doi Ang Khang, Fang district of Chiang Mai, skidded out of the narrow road and plunged into a deep ravine on New Year’s Day.

Fang district officials, military personnel and rescue workers rushed to the scene of the accident in Ban Khom Dong, Tambon Monpin. They found the van rest at the bottom of the ravine about 140 metres from the road.

All the injured were rescued and rushed to Fang district hospital for emergency treatment.

After the accident, Chatchaval Panya, Fang district chief officer, said he had instructed officials concerned to warn motorists to exercise extra caution when driving on the steep and narrow road toward Doi Ang Khang.

Chavat Wattanatham, director of Highways Department’s Chiang Mai office, said that over 4,000 cars of various kinds travelled on the route each day during the New Year’s holidays, causing traffic gridlock at some points where the road is narrow and steep.

He also recommended drivers who were not familiar with the route to use public transport instead for their own safety.

Three killed in tourist's big-bike crash in Pattaya

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... recent_box

CHON BURI: A Russian man riding a powerful motorbike with a Thai woman on the backseat ran into a South Korean pedestrian, killing all three of them, in Pattaya beach township early on Tuesday.

The triple-death crash occurred on Pattaya Road heading to Jomthien beach in front of Soi Pattaya 7 in tambon Nong Plue, Bang Lamung district, shortly after midnight.

Police and rescue workers called to the scene found an unidentified Thai woman, aged 20-25, unconscious on the road with serious injuries. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but died soon after.

A 22-year-old Russian, identified as Aleksandr Zakharov, was found dead in a pool of blood. The body of a South Korean man, identified later as Yongseok Choi, 20, was found nearby. A totally wrecked Kawazaki Z900 motorcycle with a Chon Buri licence plate was lying about 200 metres away.

Witnesses told police the motorbike was travelling at high speed with the Thai woman riding pillion. It hit the South Korean man as he was crossing the road with other people.

All three bodies were taken to Bang Lamung Hospital and relatives being contacted. Police said they would check surveillance camera footage of the scene to confirm the cause of the accident.

Thai lady flips pick-up outside Jungle Juice

Post by usual suspect »

The law of averages usually says there's no space/room for a vehicle to roll/flip down a narrow St..But..
2 nights ago a Thai lady sped down the narrow Soi past Jungle Juice..hit several parked motorcycles, & her pick-up flipped onto it's side.
But somehow the rescue foundation & the ambulance arrived before any sign of the MiB...?
Thai videos show Foundation people rolling the Isuzu back onto it;s wheels..but mai-pen-rai..no need for HH Mib

I hope you gave the silly cow a serve!
Why didn't take her keys off her?
And why didn't you call the MiB?

A serve of what?

Could not take her keys because no authority to do so and would probably have faced theft charges if he had.

Did not call the MIB because they would not understand what he was trying to say, and besides, they probably got several calls but it was already after hours.

How do you know they wouldn't understand what he had to say?
Can someone at the police not speak basic English? Or perhaps the OP can speak some Thai?

And to assume that they 'probably' got several calls?

Can you not remove the keys of someone who's driving is clearly a danger to the public in Thailand?
You can in several other countries..it's a bit like a citizen's arrest. I very much doubt the police would charge him for theft given the circumstances.

Chinese tourists hurt in tour bus-truck crash

Seventeen Chinese tourists were hurt when the tour bus they were travelling in rear-ended a trailer truck in Bang Pakong district on Thursday evening.
The crash occurred near kilometre marker 51 on Chon Thepparat (Bang Na-Trat) Road, heading to Chon Buri in tambon Tha Kham around 5pm, said Pol Capt Suriyan Kaewpithoon, deputy investigation chief.

The injured tourists were rushed to a nearby hospital. The driver of the bus fled.

Opas Chuensabai, 36, driver of the 18-wheel trailer truck, told police he was on the way to Chon Buri and slowed down as he neared a U-turn, and the tour bus rammed into his truck from behind.

All 17 passengers, all Chinese nationals, suffered some injury and were admitted to hospital.

Police said they were tracking down the runaway bus driver. The investigation was continuing.

Buses in ravines are almost a daily occurrence now ...

10 Chinese tourists and bus driver injured in bus plunge into roadside ditch
A tour bus driver and 10 Chinese tourists, including a two-month pregnant woman, were injured when their bus developed brake failure and crashed into two cars before plunging into a roadside ditch at the foot of Wat Phra Thart Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai on Monday.

There were altogether 32 Chinese tourists on the bus at the time of the accident at about 4.15 pm. All the injured were later taken by police and rescue workers to Maharaj Chiang Mai hospital for first-aid treatment.

The 38-year old bus driver, Mr Chavalit, was later escorted by police to Phuping police station for questioning.

Yes, some serious bends and downhill sections in that part of the world - maybe somebody needs to think about crash barriers at these danger hot spots.

Maybe a couple of run-off sections (don't remember their name) for use in the event of brake failure.
