UV/sun tinting film for car windows
Mrs DM does most of the driving these days. She's not convinced that our lightly tinted windows were providing much protection against that fiendish sunlight and is more than a little concerned about waking up one day to find she is black.
She got 2 quotes for all round replacement, 1 from Toyota (5k baht) and 1 from Chang Sin Services (3.5k baht). Not a lot of thought needed.
They did the job at the house to save Mrs DM hanging around for 3 hours - jolly nice of them.
I've had a quick look and all seems well. Only time will tell, of course.
When I was looking round I noticed that the windscreen itself was now fully tinted (as opposed to just a strip across the top). We had gone from level 60 tint to 80, but the windscreen was only 50. The smartly uniformed chap (one of two) doing the work told Mrs DM that he had 60 on the pick up and that 40 would be a waste of time.
I'm not entirely convinced that because a Thai pick up driver says it's OK, it actually will be OK, but we'll see when we need to go somewhere at night. (Or we won't see, as the case may be...).
Anyway - done and dusted, a fait accompli, water under the bridge, and a stitch in the hand spoils the cook.
In the meantime, if you're interested:

How did they get the old stuff off DTM...or did they just overlay it? Pete

They removed it, Pete, but don't ask me how.
Apparently it's a pukka business that's been going for 8 years, not just a couple of chancers in a pick up!

Re: UV/sun tinting film for car windows
Sixty percent is just on the edge of my comfort zone, sister-in-law's car with forty percent all round is great for both day and night driving. One of the guys at work has eighty percent; he admits to rolling down a window if he has to reverse or park at night.
The only advantage I see the tint has for me is that it has weaned my wife off the habit of hanging a towel over a window if she feels the protection from the sun is inadequate.
Some of the metallized tinting can have an effect on the GPS signals, which is why I have seen a newer type advertised as 'ceramic' that is supposed to not interfere with reception.
It does seem to have an effect on the radar detector sensitivity.

We have no complaints.
The only comment I would make is that the film has a small logo etched into it, and although this doesn't appear very often, you should ask them to make sure it stays well away from the driver's line of sight.
The filtering levels (80 all round and 50 for the entire windscreen) have been fine for day and night driving.

Anything over 60 and you become a hazard to me at night, because you can't see well.

Well STT......judging by your hasty flurry of posts in a couple of hours since joining, coupled with an obvious lack of reading anything prior to said communication spree, then the casual observer might surmise............

Re: UV/sun tinting film for car windows
We finally got the time to get our car done. My wife called them (Chang Sin Services, see above) and negotiated thb 4000 for our Chevy Cruze.
They came to our house, loaded with cartons of different grades of shades and styles. He applied 3 samples onto the side window to test from outside and inside. We finally choose 80% all round and 40% for the front. Interesting enough the front looks as dark from the outside as the 80% but very clear from the inside. The logo/serial number that DM mentioned is printed and can be cleaned off with nail polish remover. However he did it for us. Thanks for the tip to watch out for this.
They've been doing this business for 20 years and you can tell. A job well done. They also gave us an 8 year warranty certificate. And repeatedly told us to just call if there were any problem and he would stop by to fix/replace it.
They also do house windows at thb 60 to 90 per square foot depending on the shade. If our house ever gets finished I'll call them again to do further darken a few select windows.

Re: UV/sun tinting film for car windows
I want to replace the film on the 2 side windows in my car so searched through the threads and this one looked the most promising.
However, I rang both of the numbers and both no longer exist.
Anyone know if these guys are still in business or anywhere in HH I can take the car to get the side windows film replaced.

If you head out of town to the west, after big C and before you start going up the hill there is a small place on the right that does it. They have a sign saying Lamina if I remember correctly.

That Logo is usually printed on the rolls. The guy that fitted ours just used a bit of acetone and rubbed the logo off.dtaai-maai wrote:We have no complaints.

Give it a try.
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
