A Filipino teacher is fine if you want your daughter to sound like an American call-centre worker.
If you have a good grip of English and the time to spare I would teach her myself, until grade 1 or 2.
When nosy expats ask how can i live here without working, i reply, 'well, while you worked hard for 50 years, i worked smart for 5 years' :D

I am still confused why you would reccomend a "Thai lady" as though it is a selling point; though there is a benefit if you need to translate from Thai to English . If you immerse your daughter in an English speaking environment, your daughter will speak English within 2 years. She is young and will be motivated to speak to others. If they are speaking English, she will want to learn. Acquisition is far better than learning if you want her to be native-like.

The best of luck, no matter how you proceed

it is essential that children are also exposed to other children their own age who ONLY speak the new language. If they think that it is just an adult thing they wil not be motivated. And don't waste your breath telling them that it isa great advantage to be bilingual--but if they know they wont get any breakfast or treats unless they ask for it in the new language and you will get some progress.

Massive shortage of decent foreign teachers now. Most have bailed for China or better places for many reasons...but mainly following the money.

The Thais have gotten rid of the backpacking morons, which is good...but a large % of the decent teachers that were here 10 years ago have also bailed because the MoE Nazis (high school authorities) in charge here are ever making new hoops for foreign teachers to jump through......don't expect any reform other than a tightening of controls.

The only ones (acceptable teachers) who remain are the OK ones that have connections to Thailand that can't be easily tossed aside....but they are already employed somewhere OK. You can't attract decent qualified teachers to some city/town outside Bangkok with a 30k a month pay check and limited lifestyle options/benefits.....and if it's a beach town then even worse as so much more expensive.

Surprised they haven't figured this out yet.

I'm sure they have, they just couldn't give a toss :banghead:

I have just spent five years of my life qualifying to teach here, to be with my wife.

It has been a very long road.

Salaries offered to begin at 30,000bht (£685/month) to pay off my £20,000 student loan with my BA and quality teaching experience.

I'm not one to be shy to speak out.

F*** off!

Find another sucker.
