Cabinet approves French teacher plan

Post by buksida »

The government plans to propose a programme to France in which French language graduates would come to Thailand to teach French.

The cabinet on Tuesday approved the Education Ministry's proposal to seek cooperation from the French government to recruit language teachers.

The project will be presented to French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault when he pays an official visit to Thailand with his wife on Feb 4-5, said Thossaporn Serirak, a government spokesman. He said the Education Ministry would like Paris to send post-graduate students who majored in the French language.

The teachers would be brought to Thailand for 7-12 weeks, between June and September, to teach French to Thai students.

Meanwhile, the government will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on military cooperation with France. The MoU will focus on military training and logistics management between the countries.

Mr Ayrault's visit will be the first by a French leader in seven years. Former French president Jacques Chirac visited in 2006, when he was granted an audience with His Majesty the King. Mr Ayrault's visit will also involve an audience with the King on Feb 5. Mr Ayrault will meet Thai and French businessmen on the same day.
