Teaching jobs in Hua Hin
Teaching jobs in Hua Hin
I just want to know if there are any jobs there in Hua Hin that pays a decent money.
I am a Thai female currently working in one of the best international school in bkk as a teaching assistant. My partner is now moving to Hua Hin so I'm trying to find a job there....
I've been doing some searching on the Internet but the salary for Thais is not that good. Here in bkk I'm making at least 60000 baht a month. Anyone have any good advice for me?

Re: Jobs in Hua Hin
I don't think you're going to find that kind of money as a teaching assistant anywhere outside of Bangkok. Hua Hin really doesn't have any international schools anyway. If me, I would look at the hospitality business. With your English skills and degree you would probably make a good hotel guest relations manager, or sales with one of the larger housing/condo developers. If you had a 3rd language like Russian or Norwegian all the better. Good luck. Pete

Thanks Pete for the reply. I know I wouldn't be making as much as I do in bkk and I'm not being greedy or anything but it's just that I have responsibilities with mortgage and my car...
I'm not expecting the same money here but maybe about 40k in the hotel business... Just hoping I would find something with my BA in Busniess and 5 years work experience in the international school.
Thanks again :-)

I'd be interested to know what international school in Bangkok pays their Thai nationality TAs 60,000bt per month.
I told my friend (a teacher in Bangkok) about your situation and he says you're a LIAR!!
Just give me the name of the school and that should settle the matter!

Why are you so hostile to someone asking a proper question in a civilized manner? Is that the best you can do?bigideas wrote:I'd be interested to know what international school in Bangkok pays their Thai nationality TAs 60,000bt per month.

I too, am surprised at such a high salary for a T/A. If it's true then as you said, it must be one of the very exclusive top two or three schools where the actual teachers earn 120,000-130,000 baht per month, and the fees are close to a million baht per year.
When I last checked most schools with an English Program in HH paid their native English teachers just over 30,000 baht per month, so you would definitely not get anywhere near what you earn now as a T.A.
I don't even think these schools employ T/A's.
I don't think you'll come close to 60,000 per month in HH even if you get into another industry.
How about you keep your good job in Bangkok and travel to Hua Hin on the weekends. Or your partner could travel to Bangkok on weekends, or you could alternate?

Who actually cares what your Bangkok friend thinks, or are we seeing a little bit of envy here?

I'm afraid that once you leave BBK then wages generally take a nose dive, might as well be a different planet. 30-40k basic in most normal schools for a foreign native speaker is about right, plus they have a chance to 'top-up' their salary with extra courses etc. There are of course a few exceptions but not many, and quite a few of the better places seldom have vacancies these days.
As a Thai teaching assistant, then I would guess that your best bet (if you wished to moved outside BBK) would be to apply at a private school that runs an EP (English Program) course as they often have/need Thai teaching assistants as well as a foreigner to complete the ciriculum.
Salary wise though, you would probably be lucky to get what the Phillipino teachers get, which might be around 15-20k (they got 17k at the last place I worked at), and with extra courses/working hard you could maybe add another 8k on top of that.
Don't be surprised at the disparity of the salaries once you leave Bangkok.
Also have to remember that with places like Hua Hin or other beach resort cities that there is a multitude of other people who also fancy working by the beach too, so vacancies can be 'slim-on-the-ground' as well as having many applying for the position.
Perhaps try one of these over-subsctribed to Catholic schools as they seem to be perpetually 'on-the-look-out' for new staff and they often run these EP courses.....salaries are usually average to OK with lots of extra classes available as they are in general very busy.

Re: Teaching jobs in Hua Hin
Don't limit yourself to international schools, as there are some universities in the area as well, who may pay a bit better than the schools.
Re: Teaching jobs in Hua Hin
Must admit that I was being contentious and perhaps a little facetious but none the less it would be interesting to know the name of the school. I was being honest though. My friend who works at St Stephen's in Bangkok (who perhaps isn't that important!) did nearly choke on his beer when he heard that, and did blurt out "What a liar" so I thought it was worth contesting. However, if I had a Bangkok mortgage and a car to pay for, I certainly wouldn't be leaving a perfectly decent job for a partner's sake unless they were paying the difference.

Yes, but as far as I know there's only one in the area.

However, the OP's written English is significantly better overall than many, probably most, native English speakers on this forum.Takiap wrote:A bit cruel, butnanyang wrote:I'll wager the OP is not teaching grammar.Pennywise wrote:I just want to know if there are any jobs there in Hua Hin that pays a decent money.

Most native speakers on this forum are not involved in academia.
