Home Schooling

Post by dizzythumps »

We are potentially looking for our son to have additional education from home here in Hua Hin - can anyone recommend a home schooling program? It would be after school and it would be for 5 nights a week - someone who can cover all the main subjects - he is 11 and will be 12 in August

Start at the thread below and go to the contained referenced thread. I don't know if the mentioned company/organization is now accepting applicants once again. She/he has not spoken up in a long time. Pete

Just as an aside, what's the law on education in Thailand, home schooling etc? I assume it's very tight in Europe, US, Australia/NZ etc. , it's a little strange in China, but what about LOS?

I don't know the law on this but would imagine that for a 'leuk krung' or farang child the authorities won't give diddly squat about their education!
Perhaps they should care though, because with either home or extra curricular schooling some leuk krung could pose a future threat to their Thai child peers and end up running the country.

I think you are all missing the point - my son will be going to school here but I would like some extra tuition for him and therefore asking if there are any home schooling teachers who can come to my house to help him with his lessons

If anyone knows of anyone who can help me please drop me a line

Hi DizzyThumps
Before choosing a tutor you should also consider the curriculum your son is currently following - Australian, American, British or IB for example, to help you choose someone and/or a suitable support program to follow. At senior school level most teachers are subject specialists so finding someone who can cover all subjects is slightly more challenging. However, as your son is just at Key Stage 3 level (the first level of senior school, pre exam curriculum), most competent teachers should be able to assist in most subjects if they have information on which areas of each subject he is currently studying at school.

Does his school have a learning support department? They often run whole school homework clubs after school if all he needs is a little more support. Specific departments (often Maths) also sometimes have after school clubs. There are usually only a few students so he should be able to get extra attention to help him feel more confident in all or a few chosen subjects.

Best of luck

Thanks DPD
What we are ideally looking for is a retired teacher or someone who have teaching experience who can just visit the house 4 times a week to give that extra boost that we think he will need - so if there is anyone in the Hua Hin area that can help we would love to hear from you

Hello Dizzythumps -

Sorry, I haven't checked this site in several months.

I've been helping families with cooperative home schooling in Thailand for the last five years. I have a long list of teachers that specialize in specific areas that may be useful for private tutoring. Please don't hesitate to contact me by private message if you would like to meet or talk in detail about your particular situation and needs.

How about because I would sincerely hope that English is not your first language, due to the lack of correct punctuation, poor grammar and obvious lack of knowledge about how sentences are constructed.

I am sure that American teachers are more literate than your efforts demonstrate.

Please don't waste our time with your trolling.

Irrespective of whether your post is genuine or not, you do realise that if it is, it amounts to you offering to do work for which you need a work permit and forums like this are regularly monitored, so it's quite likely that an official will have read your post.
