A question has been asked if TLC and The Learning Centre are the same. They are not. Two seperate entities. Located in the same building but on different floors. And their offerings are different. TLC teaches Thai to foreigners and English to Thai. The Learning Centre teaches computer related courses and specialised language courses such as for visa, TOEIC, TESOL, 1 on 1 courses, children with learning difficulties, etc.

Sinsook Chirachant (Jeab), the owner of The learning Centre, also has a shareholding interest in TLC but that is the extent of it.

Re: [ADVERTORIAL] English language requirements - UK Partner

Post by bapak »

Following is an update on the new English language requirements for UK Partners.... The Learning Centre will be offering a course shortly to cover this requirement.
----------------------------------
New English language requirement for partners
From 29 November 2010, you will need to show that you can speak and understand English if you want to enter or remain in the UK as the partner of a British citizen or a person settled here.

You will need to meet the requirement if:
you are a national of a country outside the European Economic Area and Switzerland; and you are in a relationship with a British citizen or a person settled here; and you want to apply to enter or remain in the UK as that person's husband, wife, civil partner, fiance(e), proposed civil partner, unmarried partner or same-sex partner.

What will you need to do?

If you are a Thai nationald, you will need to pass an acceptable English language test with one of the UK Border Agency's approved test providers.

In the test, you will need to demonstrate a basic command of English (speaking and listening) at level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference. This is a basic level, which is judged to require 40 to 50 hours' tuition for most learners. Someone assessed at level A1 can understand and use simple, everyday expressions and very basic phrases.

You will not need to demonstrate your reading and writing skills.

Sounds good bapak, like the class size attitude, cool. Sorry to speculate, but are you going down the ESOL line of thinking then if you're coupled up with Cambridge, in whatever form?

Sounds like some capable workers with you and lots of choice of study areas, like it. Are you requiring TEFLs or CELTAs from people or not?

Sorry to ask too many questions, just inquisitive, but it's good to tell people stuff like this, the more info you give out the better.

Best of luck, seems like you've got it on the right path.

Re my previous responses to Spitfife... everything now in limbo as another school keeps lodging frivolous objections with the Education Department with regard to our licence application. Once one objection is thrown out, they lodge another one.

While The Learning Centre is sorting out the various complaints made by another school objecting to the issue of a licence by the Ministry of Education, for those interested in English classes, we recommend that you contact WECI at info@wecitefl.com, and for Thai language classes contact Insight at info@insightenglish.com

Hi Bapak, on a speculative question note as I'm not sure, but do you teach TOEIC for students at The Learning Center that want to get decent company jobs or perhaps it would be good enough for the standard of going to the UK/US etc?

Seems to be getting more and more popular these days plus the money in it issue, even college/uni students too.

OK, not so many students (or teachers for that matter) can pass an IELTS but a TOEIC seems a good compromise and there is no qualification for being a TOEIC teacher, TEFL/CELTA will probably do. Think the only thing you need is a "Certified TOEIC Examiner" to conduct the actual test on site, which of course costs.

Just interested man.

We already teach TOEIC. Often Thai government or private jobs require it.
We also use TOEIC for teaching UK visa applicants but only at low level speaking and listening (which is all that is required to meet A1 Level of the Common European Framewrok of Reference).

Apart from UK, Australia and New Zealand higher institutions, which require a IELTS score, a number of Thai and US universities are now using IELTS. We have no plans to offer it here.

Out of Limbo... Despite frivolous complaints by another language school (which has now been left with egg on their face), an Education Department Committee of 7 persons have unanimously approved our licence.

Out of limbo and again offering Thai language to farangs supervised by Sinsook Chirahant, the writer of the first curriculum leading to ED Visa in Hua Hin. Our lovely Phueng leads the Thai language teaching team.

For those interested in the ED Visa course of 180 hours, the cost is Baht 24,900 (about Baht 138/hour). There is no charge for the visa documents.
