The one that mentions contaminated water in English says, in Thai, no powder, ice, foam. So slightly different.

Preventive measures! The fun bit will be the total disregard of any and all of these rules.

Songkran starts Friday 13th. When does it finish in Hua Hin! Is it one day or three days? As I prefer to be dry on the outside..

It will generally start on the afternoon of the 12th and end, all bar small pockets of resistance, on the night of the 13th.

BB thanks for that so I can look forward to going out without getting soaked on Friday night, to me Songkran is the least best part of the year.

No, I think your chances of getting wet on the night of the 13th are still pretty high, although I managed it last year.

Really? 5 years inside for selling a water gun, you'd get less for shooting someone with a real one.

Ban of high-powered water guns during Songkran festival issued
The Office of the Consumers Protection Commission on Wednesday warned traders not to sell high-powered water guns as they could cause injuries to bodies and eyes.

Violators could face imprisonment of up to maximum of five years, and a fine of 500,000 baht at maximum.

The commission’s deputy secretary-general Mr Pikanet Tapuang said during the Songkran festival, traders have been asked for cooperation to not selling high pressure water guns which were made of PVC pipes as these water guns could pose threat to body parts and eyes.

He said these PVC water guns had been banned for sale 10 years ago.

As a precautionary measure, he said the office has sought cooperation from the police to recheck and prevent the sale of these water guns again during the water festival.

He said producers and importers of these high pressure water guns could face 10 years imprisonment, and a fine of up to one million baht.

I remember being the target of JW with one of those quite a few years ago, and I can confirm, they bloody hurt. Combined with iced water, they are one of the reasons, I'm just doing the traditional Hua Hin this year.

I think maybe lost in translation a bit with this. They are not talking about the plastic "guns" that you can buy in Tesco etc., et al.

I think that you will find that they are referring to "homemade" pump up guns similar to that Somchai makes on the farm for shooting ball bearings. 13.5 grade PVC pipe has a working pressure of just on 200 psi(13.5 Bar). It is not difficult to make up a hand pump and a small accumulator to store some dangerously high pressures!

I don't think anything is lost in translation, it's those long pump action plastic tubes that used to be sold everywhere about 10 years back, until they were banned. They aren't as common these days, but there are still a few about every year. Every year, the police are going to take action, but every year, when Songkran comes around, where are the police?

Every year we hear you can't do this, you can't do that, but never anybody about to enforce these perceived regulations.
