Free Thai Boxing - Pone King Petch Park

Post by Big Boy »

Apologies for the poor poster, but I only see this poster while waiting in the outside lane at the Tessebahn Lights.

Basically, there will be a Thai Boxing show, every evening from 9th to 18th December. Admission is free.

Sorry, no - if I get any closer to the sign, I will get a better photo. They normally put up more posters on the day, so watch this space.

I didn't get a better look at a poster, although there were more about today. However, I took a wander down there this evening after an earlier than usual walk on the beach with the dogs.

We arrived at about 7:30, and the Thai Boxing was underway. To my initial disappointment it was kiddie boxing. Anyway, we took a wander around the market first - if this is a replacement for the Red Cross Fair, it's a poor replacement.

After the excitement of the market, we wandered back to the boxing, and I was pleasantly surprised. They might only have been children, but there was more passion in just one fight than you might see all night at the Boxing Garden or Grand. It was the most authentic Thai Boxing I've seen in real life (it must be said that most of my experience of Thai Boxing came from The Marine Bar in Pattaya, so not really authentic. ).

One thing I'd never seen in Thai Boxing before was that each boxer had to do a ring walk, which I found quite amusing.

We left about 9, and it was still kiddie boxing. However, there were larger youths wearing their boxing gym shirts, so they may have been fighting later.
