You have to admire the PR/Marketing dept at MV. They have one event after another and they are all well organised--very unthai!

Shame they never bother promoting them in English ... maybe only Thai kids are welcome!

No, why by accident or not, I've seen all nationalities made very welcome.

Just a word of caution, this is the event where I found a Thai's hand in my pocket. Be careful.

The lack of posters in English failing and I am sure fromworking for another Thai org that this is not carelessness or an oversight--it is policy.

Policy or not, I can only say what I see when I walk around with my Thai Granddaughters. They join the queues with various nationalities to receive their gifts, and I've never seen any discrimination shown to any of the kiddies.

I actually find it very poor taste that you even think such a thing. Have you ever wandered around seeing the fantastic goodwill shown to ALL kids on this day? You should try it, you might learn something about the country that you've made your home.

When I lived in California, there was a big campaign to stop bi (or multi) lingual posters, signs, etc. The idea is that English is the language of the country so that is the language shown. It wasn't meant as a discouragement to people of other backgrounds, simply that there are too many to list practically.

Perhaps the sponsors figured that the idea is there and they shouldn't need to post in english, german, french, etc

The comment was just an observation of the annoyance that very few things are promoted in English and the resultant implication that foreigners are therefore not welcome to these events.

Hua Hin is one of the few places that does this - event flyers in other destinations such as Phuket, Samui, Chiang Mai etc are all in English.

As you are aware, I find the event notification in Thai only very frustrating also, and I agree 100%. However, it is a minor drawback of living in Hua Hin.

What I find distasteful is the insinuation that this might be a Thai only event. OK I've only attended on 3 previous years, but the generosity shown to kids from all nations, if they bother to queue has been very genuine

The insinuation derived by the fact that the promo material is all in Thai only. It is irrelevant really who turns up.

I see Vana Nava and Black Mountain water parks are offering free admission for kids of all nationalities on Childrens Day (subject to height restrictions).

As the dutiful granddad, I walked my youngest granddaughter around a couple of the events this morning. I snapped a couple of random photos as we walked.

Firstly we went up to Queen's Park, where there was loads going on to make the kids happy. This included rides in the Simon Snorkel bucket of a fire engine, sitting in a police car, sounding the siren, and speaking on the public address system, games with rewards for the winners, a show, general give aways etc., etc.

Then we went back to Market Village, where again there were numerous giveaways. We sat and watched the show for a while.

First up were the tourist Police getting kids on stage for rewards:

Then it was showtime, and a group of toddlers danced for us. Spoilt when proud mums and dads stood up in front of us to video their kids (I was probably just as bad when my son was younger )

Unfortunately, we had to leave at that point, because my eldest granddaughter, who had been helping out at Queens Park phoned to be collected.

My impression was the kids were enjoying themselves, and we saw several in tears because they had to leave.

I went with my family all around the events yesterday. My son is 8 years old and looks European but as a Thai in a mixed family speakers both Thai and English without accent (except for a slight Bristolian accent - not sure where that came from)
Anyway we were with a group of Thais with a good number of Thai children..all were treated the same. My son loves to play pool and we finally migrated to a pool bar in the BB area so that the kids could play. In the UK on any day kids are not welcome to play and this is understood but here in the LOS they were made welcome, the ladies really looked after them all, including free ice creams when the M/c arrived. No sign all day that children's day is only for Thai children. A really good day for the kids irrespective of nationality, colour or any other factor....simply kids
