That's interesting, are you sure it hadn't just ran it's course and expired with Adidas choosing not to extend it any further? I see they were sponsors between 2009 + 2011. Was it just a 2 year deal that expired? If Adidas did indeed terminate the contract, what was the reason given? I don't remember the exact details, but it was mid-season, so unlikely. Our world was falling from beneath our feet. It was so embarrassing when the official re-claimed the shirt (actually felt even sorrier for the young lad who had caught it). This was the first real sign that the troubles were real. We had been promised a strong push for the Premiership, and had many over-priced, over-paid players. The world cup bid was lost, and everybody seemed to walk away. The team were scattered to the 4 winds to reduce the wage bill - every one of them at bargain basement prices. We still see some of them playing in the Premiership today - Bolasie being a prime example. We actually fielded a team of kids at one stage (reported as the youngest side ever to play league football), because we had no proper players left. We lost 5 - 1 at Oxford - that match actually proved to be a turning point for the club.

I also vaguely remember the wheeling and dealing the new chairman had to do to secure a new shirt sponsor. I think there was only one, virtually unheard of supplier that would go anywhere near us. I'm sure my son will still have the non-descript shirt - I'll ask him when he gets home from work. There was a similarity to Warrix in that even their huge sizes were very small. Too many coincidences going on for my liking.

Definitely a period in the clubs history worth forgetting (until similar things start happening here).

I actually tried to search online for answers but couldn't find anything. I did however stumble across an article from a couple of years ago when Sheffield United were contemplating 're-signing' convicted rapist Ched Evans after his incarceration http://m.goal.com/s/en-sg/news/5293/lea ... eld-united

Funnily enough Adidas were also sponsors of the club at the time and they said: "In a statement, kit supplier Adidas made a similar distinction, adding: “The signing of new players is at the discretion of the manager and the club’s board. We feel strongly at this time that this is an issue for the club and the PFA to handle.” Greene King insist they are monitoring the situation “very closely” but declined to comment further.

This 'wait and see' approach is no surprise to Dan Smith, head of advertising and marketing law at Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co and an expert in the field of sponsorship. “Usually a sponsor looks to ride it out,” he tells Goal. “The attitude will be ‘stick with the club through the good times and the bad’, particularly where a player has gone and done something completely out of order outside his employment.” Maybe it was a glitch in the contract, or even Adidas jumping on the 'walk away' band wagon. I was no longer living in Plymouth, so only took in selected away matches at the time. The reclaimed shirt incident was at the beginning of the troubles, and the non-descript shirt was several months later when a solution was being developed. I don't remember the detail of the gap in between. Thinking logically (for a change) Wright-Philips was shipped out soon after, so a shirt with his name and number on the back would have been fairly worthless. All that I really remember is the incident actually happening, and the reason given for needing the shirt back.

Interesting article, which makes reference to this 'morality clause' which sponsors are able to use if something drastic has been done which may tarnish their reputation as a result.

Just to clarify though, failing to win the league or getting relegated would not be looked upon as 'immoral' and would not be grounds for terminating the contract.

Hmmm....... not that unheard of  , but I'm not sure that they were that popular for supply of football shirts to league clubs at the time. It was Puma.

It is important to keep this debate in context and not add in things that have not been said. We are talking about management or mismanagement of the club and the consequences thereof which is what my points regarding non payment of wages and sponsors pulling out were about. I never said their was a falling out as a result of or in the lead up to Dams berating of the players. He gave them a very angry talking to, where the points I have talked about were raised. There was no participation from the players.

For the sake of clarity I will expand a little on what I have witnessed and heard (mostly via translation) about the wages and sponsor issues. I understand the expressions of doubt and indeed nearly ended up in a full scale argument myself with my girlfriend because I too didn't believe what she was telling me about what Dam was saying in the first instance. Since then the issue of non payment of wages or sponsors has raised its head on at least 7 other occassions. In translation the gist of what I have been told has always been the same and as I have written about on here. I think it highly unlikely that the situation has been conveyed to me that many times incorrectly regardless of how good or bad her english is. In fact on three of those occassions the people concerned have been talking to me in english so their was no doubt over what they were saying. Personally I hope it is all bullshit because if it isn't it does not bode well for the future of the club.

As far as the general debate about the sponsorship issue is concerned most of the points raised are easily explained. Certainly when talking about sponsorship within football clubs in the UK and many other countries it is such a big financial issue that clubs and presumably sponsors have legal experts who are specialists in contract law acting on their behalf in negotiation. Most if not all eventualities are covered in the sponsorship agreement and this prevents both parties from cutting and running. In most cirumstances talked about on here SS is totally correct in saying that any sponsor pulling out of their agreement would very quickly end up in a legal case if they were not invoking a legitimate opt out clause to justify their action to pull out. If clubs or sponsor have failed to protect themselves in this way then they deserve what they get.

In the case of Plymouth the actions of the kit suppliers are totally understandable and justifiable. They had a sponsorship deal with the owners. The owners walked and that effectively breaks or ends the contract.

My reference to the cardboard cheques was not to say that that money had not been given but having been told that none of previous sponsorship money had been paid how does a photo of a card cheque prove that this situation would be any different. It would be interesting to know what sponsorship contracts of type I have talked about above are in place. If there are any then the situation I have been told about and talked about could not really happen but if they are not and they have not paid up they are quite within their rights to do so. Having said that, this is Thailand!

Thanks for the clarification GD. It is your knack of seeing the best, even when the team is playing badly that makes me take what yu are saying seriously.

Unfortunately, that is just human nature. If we aren't told anything, MIND GAMES start working overtime, and we fill in the gaps (sometimes right, sometimes wrong) ourselves.

No more video of the ground as there is very little visible additional work to br done.

Some good news though - I took some friends down there earlier today, and some remedial work is happening i.e.

- Areas of the tarmac surface, which was recently laid are being readied for digging up and re-laying.

- The 'meccano' seating at the West end is being moved forward, giving a better (not perfect) view of the pitch. The closer you sit to the Grandstand, the more pitch will be obstructed.

- The pitch, which was supposed to be ready for the Champions League is a long way from completion. The playing surface is still very uneven, and the Southern oal is being held up by a strategically placed boulder. I think we'll be lucky to see a decent playing surface by the start of the new season.

- I can't see an anwser to poor visibility in the grandstand.

Actually, the goal at the Southern end is also being supported by a boulder as well

Haha, I know what you meant. The fact our goal is being held up by a boulder tickled me somewhat, I can just imagine Lucas or Byrne crashing a free kick off the post and the goals collapsing!

UHT VANA NAVA HUAHIN CITY 2 - 1 RAJAPRUK MUANGNONT UTD

The last game at at Fort Thanarat this season, and probably the last time ever. Probably the end of an era. Unfortunately, the occasion was not marked with a classic game of football - far from it.

Of course. TOT wee also playing today, so as the poor cousins, key personnel were missing, including our coach  .

Again, we seemed to be fielding many squad players over the more experienced players. I'm assuming Andre was still suspended. Strangely, we were fielding 3 centre halves, but didn't have a centre forward with anyy goals to their credit this season (despite having promised supporters 10 goals).

Hua Hin continued where they left off 2 weeks ago. The ball appearing to be made of molten lead and nobody wanting to play with it. Nobody wanted to run with ball. It was just pass after pass until we lost the ball. We were fortunate Rajapruk were no great shakes either.

When Gionata gave us the lead midway through the first half, it was totally against the run of play, but with no forwards, we take what we can get these days.

Lucas doubled the lead midway through the 2nd half with a beautiful free kick on the edge of the penalty area.

I'll be honest, my mind kept drifting away from the football - Hua Hin showed little imagination, just repeatedly playing the same short passes until Rajapruk intercepted the ball. There was much faffing about at the back again. At one stage we were all expecting a centre to go into the penalty from the edge of the box after a rare run, when the decision was not to cross, but play back to the middle of our own half.

Things did improve when we brought on a couple of 'more experienced' players midway through the 2nd half, but I was basically enjoying the supporters chanting over the football.

Rajapruk pulled one back with a few minutes to go, but it was too liitle, too late.

Good to exit Fort Thanarat on a win - now lets see what happens in the close season.

Final game of the season next week, away to Thonburi.

I would estimate today's paying crowd to have been between 50 and a 100.

Hopefully one important lesson has been learnt by the owners - they've lost all but their die hard support through recent performances - people pay to watch a successful side.

I hope they look back to last season and the support they were getting with a team that was 'not good enough'.

Not gonna disagree with much of what you've said about the game this week BB, the first half especially was dire, we took the lead against the run of play with a rare break up the park. I thought we probably picked the wrong team, we had stronger players sitting on the bench, but for whatever reason due to suspension, injury or just not being selected there was no Byrne, Nutthapong, Wisetslip or Andre in the starting line-up and that didn't help.

The 2nd half we made a few changes and things did improve, I was happy to see Byrne come on first but ironically he replaced Choi who had probably been our best player up to that point! For me his performances continue to improve with every game he plays, hopefully he's starting to get back somewhere close to the player he once was.

We got the win but obviously the score is somewhat irrelevant now, and the game did have an 'end of season meaningless game' feel to it. I think that was probably reflected by our lowest crowd of the season.
Big Boy wrote:Of course. TOT wee also playing today, so as the poor cousins, key personnel were missing, including our coach
This neither surprised nor bothered me. TOT were away at Sisaket, so no way he could make both games. Given we've nothing to play for and TOT are still fighting for their(or our  ) premier survival. You know my thoughts on that whole issue, and I don't agree with it but given where we are now, I don't mind. It's not him missing yesterday's game which has cost us a CL place.
Big Boy wrote:I would estimate today's paying crowd to have been between 50 and a 100.
I would suggest you're not very good at estimating crowd sizes then, although it was our lowest crowd of the season there was still over 100 there comfortably, certainly nowhere near 50 IMO.

I know you're trying to get a bite with that post, and I'm happy to oblige!

Quick glance back at last season's final league table informs me we lost 5 and drew 6...... Exactly the same as this season!

But, I digress. I'm not sure you can say the club have lost 'all but their die hard support through recent performances' Granted the crowd was down for the meaningless game yesterday but do you really think that the ones missing will not be back next season??

Perhaps the lure of watching the team playing in a higher league will actually attract more fans?

I was sorry to see the total lack of feeling for our club from the ''management''. Only Marcus graced us with his presence. The game was a nonsense and was so bad I was thinking of leaving early. The management clearly have their thoughts and feelings elsewhere, namely TOT, who look doomed to being relegated from the TPL after being beaten yet again by Sisaket. It doesn't help our cause that when things were heading in the right direction after the victory at Samut Sakhon, the resources were pulled from Hua Hin and we went into freefall. A couple of our better players were loaned out and our coaches spent most of their time at TOT. From what I can see it has done them no good either!! Sadly, for most of the players yesterday, it looks like the end of the road for them. They were mostly squad players. It was a chance to put themselves in the shop window but they did themselves no favours. We have all being speculating as to the future of our club and what direction it is going in but until someone in the ''management'' grows a pair the speculation will continue. At the final whistle, which did not come a minute to soon for me, I looked around and saw wide empty spaces where our supporters should have been. They have already jumped ship and that should start ringing alarm bells with the money men. It seems that they have deserted the ship that we have been informed was ''Sailing As One''. It seems likely that the future of Hua Hin City FC will not be decided until the end of the TPL season and the fate of TOT is known!!

Bik Dam was there? He was even posing for photos with fans after the final whistle, there's no mistaking his 'feeling for the club'
