12th Hua Hin Vintage Car Parade Dec 12th-14th
12th Hua Hin Vintage Car Parade Dec 12th-14th
I was handed a flyer at the Motor Expo in Bangkok today. This event is the one a10ams mentioned on the Centara Classic, and is a seperate event.
Based from Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa, over 50 vintage & classic cars will be paraded around both Hua Hin, and Cha-Am over the weekend 12th,13th & 14th of December 2014.
I have an email address of one of the organisers if anyone wants it. The club concerned is;
"Vintage Car Club of Thailand". I gather from what he tried to tell me is that anybody with a classic car is welcome to join up with the parade. I am not sure but assume the cars will travel to Hua Hin on Friday, parade on Saturday, and return to Bangkok on Sunday.
I just hope it works better than the one last week!

OMG Just phoned (09:37) the Sheraton to find the best time to see the Vintage Cars. The 'helpfull lady replied, "They'll be gone at 09:30."
I asked, "What time will they be back?"
To which the hotel receptionist replied, "I don't know."

Yes, the usual dithering! I am registered on the Web site of the organising club, and they just posted a bit about it yesterday, without any details of the proposed schedule. I arrived from Bangkok at 10-00 am to find most of the cars gone. After being given a bum steer by a security guard, I found out that I was at the wrong place to start with!Big Boy wrote:OMG Just phoned (09:37) the Sheraton to find the best time to see the Vintage Cars. Once I did get into the right place one of the girls at reception went out of her way to help me. She printed out a sheet with all the details on it(only in Thai), found out where the Golf Club is and printed that address out also.
The cars went first to the Palace, but by the time that I found that out and proceeded there, the cars were gone! So I went off to the Majestic Creek Golf Club, and arrived there just as the cars were arriving.
Not really a good venue as I see it. Half the cars were parked in a line on the access road, and the rest parked the "wrong" way around on the edge of the course. A certificate in mountain climbing is required to get up the stairs to where the club function was being held!
I stayed at ground level and took some photos, which I will try and post later. After lunch I headed back to the Sheraton as the cars were due back there at 4-30 pm, but actually arrived at 3-30 pm. Some more photos as some of the cars did not go to the golf club, not being on road plates.
Then a 160 Baht for an egg cup sized cup of coffee and back to a hotel in Hua Hin.
The parade was supposed to go to Cha-Am, but I think that may of been cancelled, unless they came back along the by-pass, as I did. Enough for now, and yes, I assume that they will head back to Bangkok early in the morning.

I did pop down about 2:30 this afternoon. and they were just starting to come back. The security guards went out of their way to help, even arranging a complimentary tuk-tuk to and from the car park. I grabbed a few photos, whick I'll post later.

Photos from today's Vintage Car Parade. I must be getting really old because I remember most of the cars, and some I wouldn't look twice at driving down the road. How old does a car have to be to be considered vintage?
This is definitely my favourite. It reminds me of my old boss driving me around in his - he used to pull the roof open, and drive me around with my head doing a Noddy impression.
I will call a halt to uploads for now, and post the rest tomorrow.

The strict definition of a vintage car is one built between 1919-1930, so very few if any of the cars in your photos would qualify - but it was a pleasure to see such a wide range of classic cars that have been lovingly restored on display.

I loved looking inside at the primitive dashboards and controls.
As for that huge Cadilac, what a motor. I could just imagine cruising along the highways in that beast. However, with Bangkok plates.......

Actually there is no "strict definition", and it is different between the UK, USA and some countries in Europe. Also, some clubs impose their own rules, and the Thais knowing best no doubt have got their own!Dannie Boy wrote:The strict definition of a vintage car is one built between 1919-1930, so very few if any of the cars in your photos would qualify - but it was a pleasure to see such a wide range of classic cars that have been lovingly restored on display.
The "horseless carrige" made by Black in 1906 in the USA could be called a "veteran", and many of the other cars on display are "classic".

I was a bit surprised by the Mazda MX5 but I've just had a look and they started making them 25 years ago so I suppose it could be considered a classic already. Incidentally, I just saw a beautiful 1980's Mercedes convertible down at Sai No which should have been there if it wasn't!
