As stated last week, a movie I had been looking forward to, the new Superman movie  , Man of Steel is out today, and is being shown in 3 out of 4 auditoriums at Hua Hin Cinema - all dubbed in Thai  :cuss:

Yet another movie that I'll have to befriend Piratebay for :? , and another source of income lost by Major Cineplex, Hua Hin.

World War Z is out on the 20th

From the looks of it you may not get it in English down your way until a bit later (if at all) - Being in Busy Bangkok does have it's perks after all :-)

I've had a few reviews from friends in the UK on this movie - at best they say it is dire. So thank you Hua Hin Cinema, you've probably done me a favour - I'll still most likely download it when it becomes acailable in watchable format though.

i was in market village yesterday with my Thai friend from Bangkok , we just popped along to the cinema , to see what was on ...

man of steel, in 3 of the cinemas and all dubbed into Thai ! maybe already mentioned

she was shocked though and said it didnt make any sense at all to show foreign movies all dubbed , especially as there are so many farangs in Hua Hin

she preferred original soundtrack as well , which she was used to in Bangkok

surely i dosent make any business sense as well as there was not any Thais queuing up to see it !

It will come as no surprise that it is being shown in 2 auditoriums, both dubbed in Thai :banghead: :banghead:

The other 2 auditoriums are still showing Man Of Steel - still dubbed in Thai :cuss:

MV's target customers are THAI's especially BK Hi-so's

Farangs don't count and never will

Can't think many farangs want to negotiate MV's agonising entrance anyway when a movie can be watched in the comfort of one's home.

IMHO there is a huge difference between watching a movie in a cinema to watching at home.

Regarding the target audience, why would somebody travel from Bangkok to Hua Hin to watch a movie, when there are dozens of cinemas (probably better) closer? It's pretty sad if you are right.

If we take the latest Superman movie as an example, there have been 77 showings in Thai before today, and a further 56 showings scheduled in the coming week. If we say each auditorium holds 400 people, that means the cinema is catering to well over 50,000 seats. Apart from the recent Twilight movie, and the recent Thai comedy (forgot the name), when has there ever been a need to queue? Even on those occassions the need queue subsided after a couple of days.

Any cinema manager with half a brain cell would be looking at ways to increase his business, not keep ethnic groups away.

They travel to HH for a weekend break. Taking in a movie is just a small part of their weekend break. I suspect even some don't think about going to see a movie until hitting MV

Cinema management are not interested in increasing business. They just do as they are told from on high. TIT. If they pandered to us ethnic minorities they might lose face

If this is right, which I sincerely doubt, using my previous figures, the manager is wasting 22,000 seats on a non-existent audience.

Again, I doubt this can be correct. Major Cineplex is countrywide. Why would the manager at Hua Hin be the only one to listen to those on high?
richard wrote:If they pandered to us ethnic minorities they might lose face
So why lose face at all for 4 months each year when they do show movies with original soundtrack?

I personally think the Hua Hin manager is way out of his depth, and has no business brain whatsoever. I don't think it is deliberately racist, and I certainly don't believe it has anything to do with Bangkokians.

I could agree with some of that, but if Bankokians are the target audience, I take what I said about the manager having half a brain cell back. That would be too much of a compliment.

Man of Steel enters it's 3rd week at Hua Hin Cinema and World War Z enters it's 2nd. Maybe a time for original soundtrack we might think. No, TIT, English subtitles have been removed this week, so it's purely Thai :?

A new movie this week, Last Summer is dubbed in Thai with English subtitles.

Another Thursday, more new 'Western' movies, but all dubbed in Thai only. Superman is still being shown dubbed in Thai in 2 auditoriums for the 4th consecutive week (2nd week in Thai only :? ) - it would be good to know how many Thai cinema goers there are in Hua Hin - surely not enough to sustain what must surely be almost empty auditoriums 7 times each day :tsk: You only have to stand at the ticket office, and look at the queues (not).

Looking on the bright side, I must be saving myself a small fortune by having to download these movies :D

The other bright side of this is laughing at the incredible business accumen of the cinema's (mis)management team.
