Grocery shopping in Khao Takiab

Post by Juice81 »

What's in your opinion the best and the cheapest place to go grocery shopping near Khao Takiab? We are coming there with two small children and going to stay for a whole month and obviously we are not going to eat out every day. Also going to need to buy diapers and stuff. Thanks!

cheapest and near by:

The CJ market (closes at 9:30pm) south of the Amari Condos on the west side (mountains) and the tesco lotus express open 24/7, north of the Hyatt about two blocks on the east side (ocean). These are close by and may be within walking range of you.

They both have baby stuff and both have some very limited produce, chicken, pork. a baht bus runs during the day so only about a 10 minute wait maximum.

the best place IMO is Villa Market, expensive and near Market Village. not sure if they sell baby stuff, just everything you want to eat as a farang person. There is a really big Tesco Lotus in the Market Village mall. the same baht bus takes you to Market Village. about a two hundred yard walk with bags back to the front. just ride the baht bus back down to Khao Takiab.

Out on highway 4 next to the Waterwpark is a full size tesco lotus. you will need a scooter or driver for this due to distance. not for beginners because of very dangerous traffic.

good food and interesting to see is the tuesday and saturday market inside the temple next to the bridge and the Seahorse Resort. 4:pm-7:pm.

there is nothing south of CJ market except 7/11 and Family Marts.

Thanks! I didn't know about the CJ market! I visited Khao Takiab couple of years ago and it felt a little far off from all the bigger markets. There are only Family Marts near and they can be really expensive. I've been to Villa Market, it's also really expensive and I don't want all the imported stuff. I know the Tesco Lotus in the Market Village but I feel it's also a little far away too. The market inside the temple is nice but not really anything useful than maybe veggies and rice and it's only open on saturdays. I have find the CJ's, it sounds promising! Cheers!

No, there are mini Tesco Lotus stores popping up - quite good usually, although I've not been into the Khao Takiab store.

There's a Chinese store on the corner of the Takiab main road and the road that has the dangerous railway crossing headed to Phetkasem Rd. They have lots of packaged, canned and bottled goods as well as a small cooler of other stuff. It's cheap, especially for beer and wine in that area. No fresh food though.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

The Tesco Express in Khao Takieb does have fresh fruit and vegetables, unlike the 7/11 next door.

Okay! That's new to me! Didn't see any mini Tescos around last time. Do mean Family mart or 7eleven? Is it any near the Jamchuree condo? It's the big round high rise building just beside monkey mountain and the fisher community.

Hi

Just a note the market next to the temple in Takiab is open Saturday and Tuesday.

7/11 and family mart are not that expensive for drinks/juices/snacks etc, in some cases they are cheaper than Tesco in MV.

The Tesco Express is toward the Petchakasem Rd end almost opposite to the temple and next to a 7/11.

There are no mini Tescos near the Jamchuree. Going north, you will need to pass the Hyatt before you find a store that sells fresh meat and fresh produce. You can buy raw chicken, fish, fruit and vegetables at the tuesday/saturday temple market.

I was wrong in my prevoius post about CJ market having fresh meat/produce.

There are many 7/11's and Family Marts near you as you know. you might be suprised how much Khao Takiab has changed in one year. not sure how long since you have been here.

Oh, okay. We were there in march 2014 and there were two Family marts just beside Jamchuree and one little local store near by at the time. This one time I borrowed my friend's bike and found a little bigger store a couple of miles towards Hua Hin center but I don't recall the name of it. I just felt that it was kinda hard to get healthy and fresh food from those Family marts. They had eggs and yogurt and sausages, good enough for breakfast, but no veggies or raw meat etc that you could make your own lunch or dinner.

if you are brave and good on a scooter, you can go to the soi 112 market across the main highway from the waterpark.

that is a thai open air market with all kinds of fresh raw chicken, pork, fish, everything, good prices, but of course no baby stuff. starts at 4pm everyday day.

Yes, I found this same thing from Big Boy's market introduction post! I believe it's close enough to get with a bicycle? The baby stuff we can buy once a week- or two from the big Tesco Lotus in the Market Village. It's the fresh food ingredients that I'm more after. Thanks!

Okay, the bike option is out. What I could made out of Google earth, there are no small roads to Vana Nava. And also a little far away for that anyway...Is there nowadays a tuk tuk post in Khao Takiab? Last time you could get out of there only by Songthaew and I feel it's a bit slow to get around...
