Traces of endangered crocodiles found in Kui Buri national park

Post by buksida »

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants will be asked to temporarily close down Praek Takraw waterfall in Kui Buri national park, Prachuab Khiri Khan, to allow forest officials to keep track of endangered species, including fresh-water crocodiles.

Mr Sarancha Suriyakul na Ayudhya, chief of the 3rd conservation zone in Petchaburi, said Monday that officials had recently found traces believed to be the breeding group of an endangered species of fresh-water crocodiles in the area of Praek Takraw waterfall near the Thai-Myanmar border.

He went on saying that park officials had installed surveillance cameras to capture images of rare animals in the park which include tapir, guar and crocodiles. Although the real rare crocodiles have not been sighted yet, officials found footprints and traces of what was believed to be the breeding ground of the reptiles.

The presence of the rare wildlife is an indication of the prestine state and rich diversity of the national park, he said.
