What's On & Where To Go Hua Hin - Pranburi Mangrove Forest

Post by dotx »

Trying to get to the Pranburi Forest Park from Hua Hin (by car) [Edit: link removed]

I have a general idea of how far to go (about 20 km), but I was wondering if there are any signs or specific landmarks that'll tell me when to turn. It's mostly a straight line all the way there, but then you have to turn at some point. When is the question. Anybody made it there by car and can offer some clues?

Milford Golf course is a point of reference - it's a couple of kms past there.
If you have GPS, the coordinates for the forest park are 12°25′0″N 99°59′03″E

EDIT: Your first turn is at the Paknampran turn-off from Petchkasem (very big sign) about 8 kms south of the Takiab fly-over. Cross the railway line and keep left, then follow the road as it bears right by the restaurant. Once you've negotiated that junction, I think it's just "keep going".

Thanks. No GPS yet -- I've been meaning to buy one but not sure where/what to get here in Hua Hin.

There is another newer Mangrove Forest on the outskirts on Pan Nam which is worth visiting. I think it opened about a year ago maybe a little longer. Walking off the main elevated walkway there are areas to study various elements of life in the mangrove.

The Sirinath Rajini Center For Mangrove Forest Studies head into Pak Nam by car and it is well signposted. There are a few photographs and a map here http://www.panoramio.com/photo/22868925

I went there last week so the memory is fresh but my details may be less than useful. This is the turn to take one to the coast and not into the town of Pranburi. It has many signs for pointing left just before the turn. Can't remember what a single one says. BUT, there is a business at the corner on the east side of the road, calls itself Cafe <something> and it's the first corner since leaving HH with MANY signs pointing left.

Thanks for the link! This wasn't the one I was thinking of, but it's really beautiful, so it goes on my list of to-see places.

I think this is the turn-off Homer was referring to.

The intersection where one should turn from Phetskasem Road towards Forest Park looked like this about a year back:

Here's the map to Park:

This is a couple hunderd meters before the intesection on Phetskasem Road. You can click on the arrows to move along the Phetskasem Road:

I ranted about people who give less than useful directions but think they're doing a great job.

Funnily enough, I was exploring local backroads today, and just happened across this place. I must have read this thread previously, but it hadn't sunk in. Anyway, what a fantastic place with a walkway going several Kms through the forest, and a wooden tower that you can climb to get above the treeline.

This place is a must to take future visitors to. I took a few snaps, which can be viewed here http://www.flickr.com/photos/8517813@N0 ... 6882/show/

Yes, thanks for that BB, I'll have to pay a visit as I often use that back road to get to the beaches further south but I've never actually gone into the park.
