"Klong Yai

Klong Yai is the last village before the border cross. Despite being acutely picturesque, it does not offer appropriate solutions for an overnight stay. Simple grocery shops cater for the few travelers stopping here.

The minivans to the border do not stop here for long; but it is possible to take one from Trat to Klong Yai, to stop there for a while and then to continue with another one to the border. The fish port provides some unforgettable views of old-fashioned fishing piers.

On the Crossing Point

Cambodian and Thai flags stand next to the beach and provide the only clue to the true nature of this charming spot. The crossing point is open between 7 AM and 8 PM, though if not planning to enter further into Cambodia, it is possible to walk around the area.

If planning to cross, it is recommended to reach the area with a Cambodian visa issued in Bangkok. However, a visa on arrival can be issued at the border; unlike in Bangkok the only way to pay for it is in new and crispy dollar notes or by getting a very bad exchange rate for Thai baths (which would be used to buy dollars by the immigration officers). Thai visas on arrival are available for travelers entitled to them; in fact this is a popular spot for getting them in what is known as a "visa-run," the traveler leaves the country for a few minutes and gets a new thirty-day visa-on-arrival while crossing back into it."

Yes, not accurate concerning immigration rules, just geography of the border area. Pete
