Prachuap Town - what's the story?

Took another day trip to Ao Manoa and Prachuab yesterday.

Went for a game of golf on the army course with a friend, while the women and kid went to the beach.

We then went to Prachuab town for a pizza at the place I mentioned before.
It's pretty small and only open from 5 - 10 p.m
It's very cosy and kid-friendly.
Run by a French lady, Lilly, and her Rasta Thai husband, Bong, who apparently used to be a vocalist with the guys playing in Cartoon at El Murphy's

It's called Pizza Shop and the address is 94 Beach Road.

Together, we had 4 pizzas, 1 pina colada, 7 mojitos and 8 glasses of wine, from what I can remember
The bill was just 1600 baht, and then they even gave us a round of drinks on the house!!

ive hust had a couple of days down prachuab , not a great deal going on , but i went for the peace and quiet ,had a few drinks in anns bar , apparently her fish and chips are very good ,i never tried them , but the food i had was very good , met a few nice people from america and uk

we stayed in a guesthouse on the front , rooms were standard but the owners were nice i think the name was bangnangrom only 400 baht a night similar in hua hin would be about 800 baht

Prachuab has the discreet charm of the cities where nothing happens and I like it

quick observation. it rains there. green town. year round. the streets are wide and set in squares. little traffic. no soi dogs. why? no idea but i like it. rents cheap. friend al,canadian, and i looked at a couple of places. he wanted to move there but gf did not. if slow life style floats your boat, perfect place.

We went for a short overnight break again last week.

At Ao Manao, the Thai airforce now has its own horses based there just before the southbound exit of the base.
They have instructors too - the gf wanted to try it out and the setup was very professional.
Cost was 500 baht for one hour including the very experienced instructor.

We stayed at a new place in Prachuab town, run by a Thai lady called Mag.
She has a guest house in the town, not far from the beach, in the ex-Governor's residence.
It's called Maggies Homestay, rooms from 150 - 600 baht.
She also has some small apartments on the river.
As you go into Prachuab, turn left at the traffic lights, go over the bridge and follow the coast road.
After a couple of km there's a sign for the river houses, turn left and they're on your left.
We got our own self-contained mini apartment with balcony looking onto the river and mangrove forest. Double bedroom plus living room with gas ring, fridge, cable TV, sink etc., separate bathroom (no hot water), aircon and fan for just 400 baht/night - very quiet and relaxing.

Visted our favourite pizza place again and it was as good as ever.

The day after, we decided to drive a bit further south towareds Thap Sakae .... see separate thread .....

Still no car , so we took a day trip down there yesterday by train. I have to agree with Steve G's earlier comment about the place being dead - no sign of any improvement in 2 years. There were no people, and no traffic. Didn't even have to look both ways before crossing the road. Having said that, it is a beautiful place, with many old wooden buildings, and a lovely promenade. The hills on either side of the bay are quite spectacular. Unfortunately, we chose very bad weather, and it wasn't long before the rain closed in.

We were fortunate to find what must have been the only coffee shop open in the whole of Prachuap as the rain peaked. We spent about 45 minutes sheltering from the rain. I quite fancied an ice cream (must be pregnant or something), but there was nowhere open to buy one

Walking back to the station on the way home, I came across (what I think is) a different memorial to those who died during the WWII Japanese invasion. I didn't realise that the Thai resistance was provided by the BIB . Here's the memorial (apologies if its the one posted by others previously):

Hello!

Some weeks before I moved here from the north to this pretty town Prachuap Khiri Khan.
But I'm a little bit disappointed because nowhere in the evening I found a little nightlife and girls . Only some dirty bars and "massages" I saw at the road number 4. But there I didn't found girls who speak a little bit English.
Is here anybody who can give me some hints, where I should look for a nice girli-bar or freelancers? (maybe with PN).

Unfortunately bb the valiant Thai defence lasted apparently < 24 hrs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_ ... _Khirikhan) before the brave lads in the then bangkok government capitulated , but that's another story.

I don't think the local constabulary excelled at anything on the day.
