US actor Robin Williams found dead, aged 63, in apparent suicide, California police say.

That really surprised me, but I didn't know about his substance abuse problems. To me he seemed like one of the more normal and down to earth Hollywood celebs. Why is it that so many of these people who have everything, and can do anything and everything they want end up like this. Sad.

Met him on a plane many years ago, both heading to Jamaica. Very down to earth, nice guy. RIP

It's a crying shame, as the man was brilliant. Unfortunately, I suspect that every now and then, when you are blessed with the remarkable talents that someone like Williams had, there's someone up there weighing the balance and deciding the price to be paid.

A brilliant man, such a sad loss. Apparently he had suffered depression for some years. I always remember his marvellous performance in Good Morning Vietnam.

The latest report now says that he committed suicide by hanging himself.

There are many different types of depression, all of them can be debilitating, and many are difficult to diagnose.
