I recommend you take a look at ThaiExpat.tv, which stream uk tv from servers in Thailand, which bypasses VPN servers (some of which are really dodgy), and the sometimes poor international bandwidth.

and you can download their free trial here http://www.thaiexpat.tv/aff.php?aff=033MwD wrote:I recommend you take a look at ThaiExpat.tv, which stream uk tv from servers in Thailand, which bypasses VPN servers (some of which are really dodgy), and the sometimes poor international bandwidth.

Re: WATCHING UK TV ON LAPTOP via VPN Service
Certainly got to be worth trying the free trial with Thai Expat TV as Big Boy suggests, however if you do want to go the route of the VPN: -
1. If watching SKY and UK TV, you'll need a UK specific VPN. IMHO it will be very difficult to get a country (UK) specific VPN for free, and to be honest the freebies can be somewhat unreliable. Living in China, I've gone through months of trial and error with various providers over the years.
2. Personally, I use "My Private Network" (https://www.my-private-network.co.uk), which allows you to specify which country you wish to have an IP address from. For a single country - which I am registered for (UK), the cost is 5 GBP per month. For multiple countries, I believe it is 8 GBP per month. I have now been using this service for 5+ years and found the service to be excellent.
As an aside, there are a couple of freebie sites where a VPN is not required: -
1. www.cricfree.tv - great for sports (SKY, BT, ESPN, Setanta)
2. http://www.filmon.com/tv/live (additional UK channels available through VPN)
Happy viewing whichever way you decide to go...

Re: WATCHING UK TV ON LAPTOP via VPN Service
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned previously
I watch UK TV via my iPad and or Apple TV. For example the BBC iPlayer. I have a VPN which works on both and for the most part the streaming speed is ok with the exception of certain times during the weekend.
Of course you can also download the programs from the BBC iPlayer but I found that even at non HD quality, the speeds were very slow. By accident I found out that once you had started a download a program, from the BBC iPlayer, via the VPN, you could switch off the VPN and the download would continue at much higher speeds.
I have recently downloaded both episode 1 & 2 of the new Sherlock series in this way and look forward to E3 on Monday.

Me and my expat mates use Astrill. It's paid but has a bunch of different servers around the world. Handy for when you want to watch a live sports stream and want to get around the geo location restrictions.

Re: WATCHING UK TV ON LAPTOP via VPN Service
I used a lot of VPN companies and found different solutions. HMA is good, but I doubt their encryption and number of servers, knowing real prices of servers and storage on market. Accidentally, I found Super VPN and tested their Deluxe SSL and Blackberry Plan. You will be delighted. For $15 per month, you can use 3 servers/countries and watch online TV and play poker. Very good solution. Cheers!!

HMA is one of the most popular VPNs on the Internet. This service has some of the most interesting features that you will find with VPNs, and it performs well when compared to native Internet browsing. If you are thinking of using this service provider, then read HMA review to make sure that it lives up to the hype.
