No, you're wrong Pharvey. Per PBS it is indeed Wales, and I would say we can trust their facts. Short quiz! :D Pete

December 1, 1990 is a famous date in the annals of European history. What was the event? Pete

Am I correct to say there are no castles in Thailand: just plenty of palaces?
By castle I mean fortified residences and seat of power, So what is the nearest castle or fortress to Thailand? Not sure of a definitive answer.

I would say the closest is Okinawa and Japan. I can think of nothing left in Hue, Vietnam. Angkor is more of a temple ruins site now with any fortifications long gone. Hong Kong has some WWII Japanese bunker ruins but they were hardly castles. The Forbidden City in Beijing may qualify as well.

India? Red Fort always looked a bit castle-y to me.

Buxa Fort, West Bengal?

EDIT: No, there must be nearer ones in China.

What about towns like Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Surely the wall were fortified structures to defend the towns/cities. Sukothai seems to have a fortified structures.

Is there anything left by the British in Burma?

There used to be some fortifications on Sentosa in Singapore.

Are we doing "what was", or "what is"? If ruins and remnants they are all over the place. I thought you were trying to pinpoint intact existing castle structures today.
