I've been going to Hua Hin for quite a few years now - its no different to anywhere else. If you want trouble, then you will soon learn where to find it. On the whole, I don't think you'll easily find trouble in Hua Hin.
Depending upon how concerned you are, the types of place to avoid will be places where people are getting drunk - just like anywhere else in the world.
Assuming that you are probably getting on in years
then I don't consider you to be somebody who will go out disco dancing every night. However, if you do, then maybe you can administer a little first aid whilst waiting for the medicsfast approaching retirement

I put a post up on a similar thread a while ago, and in danger of repeating myself here we go.
I lived in London for 15 years, mostly in North London & esp Bruce Grove (the nicer bit of Tottenham). In that time I lost count of the number of incidents that happened to me and my friends. Some of the cops I occasionally worked with referred to my home as "The Nam"....I used to laugh until the drive by shootings happened at the end of my street and a mate got raped near my house in the evening.
I know of at least 3 times when street gangs let CS cannisters off in bars - my mates pub the Purple Turtle got done twice one summer by kids who he wouldnt let in.
I moved to Reading and there it was pretty much the same. My mate had his boat wrecked twice by vandals. Mates got attacked by drunks. Student / local brawls outside pubs. I got threatened with a knife by a teenager....and so on and so on.
I moved to a small village near Marlow, Bucks. In 12 months there the local pub got wrecked by travellers, my boat got nicked, and there were numerous punchups in the village pub.
Compared with any large town in the UK Hua Hin is a paradise. Violence here is sporadic and usually isolated to the places where the after 2pm crowd is in force. Drunken brawls are very rare. Crime is pretty low level.
Avoid the places it happens and you dont get involved.
Hua Hin is a great place to live - OK it has its problems like traffic and utilities, and farangs forgetting where they are (ie not back in Europe), but these are mustard burps, nowt else.
Retire here and relax mate.
As to the idiot in the nightclub. Well, if I know Thais they dont forget, and Im sure she'll get hers.......

I lived in the South in later years (70/80s) and there were few problems
I remember a friend who returned from RSA with tales of woe about having burglar bars, dogs and security guards at home

Aye! a great idea! Instead of CS gas or pepper spray she could use a machine gun next time. Our school kids could get mowed down by crazy hormone imbalanced youths with guns. I hear thats a popular sport in the US these days. Was this statement for real or are you just plain stupid?richard wrote:

an annoying incident but seemingly a fairly isolated one? certainly not one worth going down the road to bearing arms 
in comparison to some of the inner cities & ghettos of the so called civilised western world, thailand is as safe as houses.

well i have just got back yesterday from hua hin after spending 10 days there, out while the early hours every night and never saw 1 spot of violence.
i would not be worried about coming again or even deciding to live there at sometime in the future.
Give people respect and show some manners and you never have a problem.

The feeling of having to take off a perfectly good respirator and then breath the stuff is not good. I was lucky, as I was last in the queue I got the resp. off, rattle off my no. rank, name and address! Then held my breath as long as I could.
To my relief they'd run out of cs tablets and the effects had mostly faded by the time it was my turn!
