From what I saw he didn't even deserve a punch. A couple having a verbal argument is no one's business unless it becomes physical
Nobody is blaming the farang at all and certainly nobody has suggested he deserved it!!! :?

Do you know what they were arguing about? do you know who the guy was that attacked the farang? (might be family/boyfriend or even husband  ) are there other underlying reasons for the assault?
How much did you actually know, apart from what you saw?

There could be lot more to the story than you know yourself or maybe that you are willing to tell.?? :|

I agree that no one has said he deserved it. Some people have suggested being more careful in that part of town. OK, on the face of it doesn't sound as though he brought this on himself at all BUT as you say, there may well be another dimension to this story, highly possible. Posters, without any details of the protagonists, simply assuming Thai aggression towards an unsuspecting farang, are bordering on racist in their posts. But this is an expat forum....

Not sure how long you spent on your 'research' but you did it badly. I at no time said that this attack was an example of a Thai man randomly attacking a farang. I was clearly talking generalities and also said that I felt it was not the major issue that some posters make it sound. Further comment?

I actually see what you mean. I did say 'Completely random violence'. I guess I was suckered in by the title of the post too. A perfect example of how it's necessary not to jump to conclusions and redzonerocker was the man who made that clear. Kudos to him/her. But I can stand by the rest of my comments. Thanks. :)

About 5 minutes research, in response to your mention of near-racist posts.

And kudos to me for pointing out your error.

And more than one actually. The use of 'emasculated' is generalising and potentially derogatory - and is an assumption based on a stereotype and as for questioning, or implying to, the size of their manhood, well! :tsk: :D

Truth be told, I honestly really don't care, as long as it's not outlandish, but coming from a work environment where folk were almost too scared to speak because of anything they said being misinterpreted or deemed potentially insulting to one group or another, then yeah, that comment about racism made me sit up and take notice, as I'm as anti-PC as they come. I hate it when such comments are used as a form of intimidation or moral righteousness or indignation. Ooh, look what I just did! 8)

Anyone else still waiting to hear what the OP did to help a fellow human in trouble?

Yes, I'm waiting, but I also understand that whatever he did, it would have been a very difficult decision.

We heard last year what happened to US when he tried to help the Welsh family at Songkran.

In such a situation, there are a lot of unknowns. While Farangs are generally left alone, intervention could have seen a knife or even a gun drawn. It sounds as if the Thai guy was doing OK on his own - how many mates did he have in the crowd waiting to back him up? Maybe trying to help would have seen mob intervention, and the Farang might have ended up with more than 8 stitches.

There are so many unknowns. I don't think we know for sure that the Farang didn't bring it upon himself (I'm not condoning the level of violence). I don't necessarily think the red light comes into it, but certainly whatever happened would have been significantly influenced by alcohol.

I don't know what I'd have done, but I certainly wouldn't have just waded in, not really knowing who was to blame. Being Farang does not necessarily make him the victim. I've seen many guys in the Binthablock area treating the women like pieces of meat, and have been amazed at the patience shown towards them. Fortunately, the idiots are in the minority.

Incidents like this are rare, but even once is too many. If the OP did nothing to help during the scuffle, I personally wouldn't condemn his action.

Maybe the security guys would have stepped in if someone had suggested it?

Maybe a little help to the farang after it was over?

One does not necessarily need to step into a fight to help.

But, standing around and doing nothing and then reporting it on a social chat site, is a problem in my mind.

To me, the only thing that could be worse is to have stood there with camera in hand and done nithing.

As for the Songkran incident, the farang woman started it as shown in the video and she got what she deserved.

Police seem to do nothing with these thugs as they turned up two minutes later. Thai woman then admits to police it was her fault. Hua Hin will have no tourists left soon
Polo Bar ??? You mean former Papapolo ??? Already closed as well Havana Bar, same owner.
I guess the Thai man who kicked the farang was probably working as guard for Panama bar.

LOL, do they have security guys now? Just shows how long it is since I frequented that area at night. Apologies, my ignorance. I agree, if there were security staff employed, then I agree, they should have intervened.

Helping after the event? Still a grey area for me. I have no training - if there was nobody else around, yes, I'd attempt some First Aid, but if there were others around, I personally would assume they know more than me. I would not want to cause further damage.

[Off topic, but a little bit relevant to your comment, my son was involved in an horrific road accident a couple of weeks ago. I have the CCTV footage. The first person on the scene was a Farang, who reached for his phone, took a couple of photos, and left again. I found that quite disgusting, but in hindsight, there was very little he could have done - it had to be left to professionals. I would have been more disgusted if those photos had found their way to social media. We are a strange breed.]

Being severely kicked in the head as a deserved punishment  . I agree the lady was at fault, but what exactly was the crime? I would hate to have you as the judge if I were ever to appear in court.

Security just standing around was in the OP.

As for the "lady" who got beat up, I learned a few facts when I was young.

1. Wearing glasses does not mean you can mouth off or hit anyone. In the 60s, a common statement was "you can't hit me, I'm wearing glasses".

2. If you take the first swing, be prepared to get your butt stomped. Or be able to make the last swing too.

3. Getting hit by a woman hurts just as much if not more than getting hit by a man. At that point there is no woman/man line. Its all adrenilin and seld defense.

I never have and never will hit a woman for mere words. Admitedly, I can't say the same about a man. But since I'm 60, married, and don't drink, the likelyhood if it happening is very slim.

As for being a judge, I think you'd be very happy. I have no sympathy for either side, but a very strict view if right and wrong. Lol

When in the UK and it is probably works well here as well, is to avoid bars and pubs that need Door Staff and security. These places need security due to either the clientele that they attract or due to their staff lack of people skills. A decent boozer with a proper governor that runs it is all a pub/bar needs.
