Another cowardly farang bashing in Hua Hin

Post by TicTac »

I was standing out the front of Polo Bar in Binta last night when a falang and thai girlfriend came out arguing (but no violence between them) and then a Thai male king hit the falang in the back of the head. Once on the ground Thai male proceeded to kick falang in the head while security watched. This place is really out of control. Police seem to do nothing with these thugs as they turned up two minutes later. Thai woman then admits to police it was her fault. Hua Hin will have no tourists left soon

There will always be anger towards foreigners--- It used to be said about US servicemen in the UK, when there were many more of them than now ---They are over paid, over sexed and over here. Same feeling in Thai.
I rarely sense any resentment or anger from Thai women, but in the male population, it is a smoldering fire.

But the police need to investigate a beating in front of hundreds of tourists. It made me sick to the stomach. And they have CCTV footage there

My guess is they will and there will be proceedings and hopefully a conviction. Tourism is important to this country and especially to places like HH.

It's been said before but I suppose it's no worse than happens outside Manchester nightclubs on a Saturday night. Completely random violence. Some (many?) Thai men do feel emasculated by farangs, worse jobs, less money, smaller.... Also maybe 'expat' behaviour can cause friction, we are not the same.

Sorry, but I'm not sure how you equate Brits kicking the shite out of each other(stupid bar stewards for doing so in the first place), with the fact that it is clear that Thai men (at the least) have an issue with expats and take every opportunity that presents itself to vent that anger!!!

Did you try to stop it or help the guy afterward?

I consider random violence to be random violence. Someone doesn't like the look of you or decides you're acting like a monkey, and that's that. Their motives are hardly germane to the outcome. It's an everyday occurrence in some UK cities (and not only UK pal). Is that true of HH? I won't aggravate any racial feelings on this forum by suggesting that Thai men are all looking for a chance to lay into a farang. I don't think it's true. Read my earlier post to see I accept it's an issue, but not to that degree.

The difference between western civilized world is that we use our brains. Thais react with instinct like animals.

If you're referring to Europe or the America's as being civilized, you've seen something I never saw there. Especially in a bar or urban environment.

Thai's are 10 times more civilized.

I'm certainly not condoning any violence against anyone in such a situation, but it's complicated here, and all non locals need to wise up.

However, will mention a few things that are relevant imo.

Thai men don't necessarily have it in for foreigners (often foreigners are left alone as it's too much bother) and actually they treat their own in a more serious way (but foreigners aren't excused totally) if they get on their nerves or they lose face to someone. However, they (the local males) are a little 'hair trigger' imo to be honest, and any excuse will do etc. and anyone around will do too. Machismo is alive and well here, for sure.

Also, red light bar area late at night with everyone drunk plus the local perps circling/feeding/turf controlling and these places are a real magnet for all the garbage (both local and from elsewhere). Not to mention many of the douchebag Thais around at this time of night in such places may well be high too.

Some dude gets angry and emotional under the influence in such a place appearing to the bystanders as being a dick...what could go wrong? People need to remember where they are.

What do you think would happen in Soho or Shaftesbury Avenue late at night in London if you pulled the same thing....or Normanton in Derby UK if you want an average place of similar size? Or maybe in Nottingham around the large park where all the prostitution is located (forget it's name now)?

Crossed wires or lost in translation is a common thing here too...but people should be reminded that they shouldn't be surprised if they get shit from the locals if they try to pull stuff in Thailand that they couldn't get away with from where they came from.

If you want to go drinking in a red light district in a country that is not credited too much for it's justice/law & and order system then you need to carry out at least some degree of awareness regarding your surroundings.

I'm not saying that this guy deservedly brought it all on himself (far from it) and I'm certainly not defending the moron that attacked him as he should be arrested and jailed, but it just doesn't work so perfectly here. You do have though the option of cutting your losses and walking away and saying nothing from any situation. Just walk to the next bar and talk to the next girl.

So many people think that what they think and how they feel is all so fcuking important. When it comes to drinking in red light districts, you really need to be emotionally detached imo.

Update: I saw the falang today in Soi 80 with 8 stitches. Apparently spoke with owners of the bar and was told if he went to the police, he could never live in Hua Hin again without being hurt. He has lived here for 8 years. No investigation by police and falang fearing for his life now moved to Kho Takiab. Unbelievable!

Sounds like the European entitled tourist gripe...and that doesn't even apply/fly in Spain, don't think it does so here for a moment mate. Dream on man, no offense like though.

No offence taken but surely police should investigate a bashing. But Tit and love it or leave it. But I've come to Hua Hin for three months each year cause it was different from the other tourist spots
