Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
After living here for 18 years, I can't remember any year when royal birthdays caused an alcohol ban. Quite a high ranking policeman lives nearby and he's told me that bars will open as usual. Some may close out of respect but no compulsory closures.
This argument comes up regularly every year on this forum and every year the result has been the same. No Ban!

They did close in about 2007 when I was here on holiday for the Queens Birthday. I remember it very well. There was a big party in the penthouse of that big condo on the beachfront where loads of people attended on the dry day - it was quite an event.
[Edit] Probably more like 2004 thinking about it more. [Edit 2] Actually 2005 - just found the photos.

Your memory fails you. 555 They were closed just last December for the King's birthday. Your "high ranking policeman" also is going to be proven wrong.HHTel wrote:After living here for 18 years, I can't remember any year when royal birthdays caused an alcohol ban. Hua Hin had a local ban Dec 5th 2015. The bars were all open in BKK and even Pattaya!! Even HH it was more or less restricted to the 'bar area'. Definately no national ban.
Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
Bars must close in Bangsaphan on friday - alcohol sales are prohibited.

I have been in touch with the Tourist authority of Thailand.
They welcome my suggestion that bar closures be replaced with bars open, but no music nights; and say they are going to put the idea to the relevant government dept.

REMINDER: Tomorrow is a dry day due to the Buddhist holiday Wan Ok Pansa (Dedicate Lent).
Dedicate Lent is on the 15th lunar month of the 11th day and is an important day in the Buddhist Religion since it marks the end of the three-month period of lent.
By the end of “Buddhist Lent”, Buddhists use the opportunity to enter the temple to make merit to monks, who have stayed within the temple for the three month rainy season in order not to damage the harvest by travelling around the country.
Cheers,
B.

Dedicate Lent? Is that a Google translation? Literally "exit Lent". Simply: end of Lent. I don't know about monks staying the temple but these days during Lent you can always see at least one or two in the malls looking for a smart phone.

I don't understand why there is such a discussion. Tomorrow, Sunday is an important Buddhist day (the end of lent) and it will be a 'dry' day as in previous years. It has nothing to do with recent developments.

Looks like Maccha Buddha day in 2017 will be Feb 11th.
In 2015 we had a splendid beach party at Dolphin Bay on MB day, but it didn't gel this year..

Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
Are the bar's closed tonight
Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
Sorry for unhelpful reply but it may be a "wait and see" thing.
They usually get told the night before by the police if they have to close but at 11 pm last night several bars had heard nothing
Some will definitely close out of respect - but some are planning to open...
I expect that you will find a beer somewhere
