Agree US
My regular taxi man said ALL major roads into HH central were being heavily policed. Only those 'in the know' know the back roads through as did my driver

Seems the bars out of town (bintablock etc) were openly serving from 6pm tonight.
Of course, Ton's bar on Takieb beach was 'business as usual' all day today. They seem to have the attitude that Farangs can't vote so they have no problem serving them drinks. The same with 'Budha' days. "You're not a budhist so of course you can have a beer!" A shame that logic isn't used everywhere.
N.B. How come a beer tastes so much better when you're drinking it illegally?!!!
Excuse me Harry B, I was at Ton's for most of the afternoon until around 6pm when I moved to a bar in Takieb village. Had a few beers at Ton's and not in cups either.
Yes, a nuisance as usual; I had to spend my last night in town on Friday drinking beer out of an emptied Schweppes can up soi 94, as apparently even the coffee mug ploy was deemed to be too obvious!
Whilst I find these bar closures annoying and sympathise with the bar owners for their loss of income, I think the damage goes even deeper than the Police/Politicians realise. The reason I say this is because I normally go to the Poolsuk/Bintabaht area to do my drinking/socialising but with the recent bar closures I have had a beer or two away from that area in pseudo restaurant cum bars and have found the atmosphere good and to my liking.......and I've met some local people who don't "seem" to be just after the contents of my wallet. Maybe I will therefore give the Bintabaht area a miss altogether.
Having said that of course it strikes me that one areas loss is another areas gain!

Steve, I say this in the nicest possible way.........but, when I have to resort to decanting beer into an empty Schweppes Tin I think it will be time for me to stop drinking
Actually I just went to meet some friends for my last night in town and I wasn't that bothered about drinking but the Thai owner of the establishment, that I've known for years, decided that we should have a drink.

Whenever there are bar closures it affects not only the bar owners, but many other people also lose money. The girls, taxis, restaurants, flower sellers, watch sellers, the accordian blind folk etc etc
Note I did not mention people of a confused gender, who I imagine also lose money.
