Breaking a glass in a bar

Vote with your feet, don't go back. I certainly wouldn't go back into one that charged me for a breakage.

The bars seem to be getting greedier and caring less about their customers these days, we know times are tough but repeat custom is good business as people often mention good bars to friends. No wonder there is such a rapid turnover in bar ownership downtown.

Firstly I would apologise. Then ask for a dustpan and a mop and clean it myself followed by buying a round of drinks for the staff and whomevers drink I had knocked over. If I was then charged for the broken glass I would vote with my feet. There is always the possibility that the owner charges the staff for breakages as many do with wrong orders however.

Order this. Return to the bar. Place in bar or toilet. Leave bar and head to another and sit and watch. or Looks like cheap fun and a few laughs. They may never learn it was over a broken glass but to watch the faces on the staff in the bar would be worth it. Just a harmless prank.

Harmless pranks can often be seen as anything but to the pranked. If suspicion aroused that you were the prankster in question I would expect some hostility from the bar owner and friends (possibly in the form of violence)... not worth it over an unfair charge.

As most people have said, just don't visit that bar again.

Arlo. You must be young. Not smart to escalate a 100 Bt matter into something much worse. That "harmless prank" could cost you dearly. If you can see them, they can see you. They will know it's you. At the very least, you could expect a good beating and a payment of much more than 100 Bt to compensate for lost trade for the night. At the worst, some jail time followed by deportation. I don't think the police would find this amusing at all!!

Better to pay the 100 Bt and every time you go by there and they expect and ask you to come inside, make it a point to drink at their competition where they can see you.

Things such as breakages should be factored into the cost of doing business, you surely can't expect to run a bar and not have breakages. I have never been charged for a broken glass anywhere in the world and I have to admit I've broken my fair share, albeit either through clumsiness or inebriation, but never in anger or deliberately and would never go back to a place that was so cheap as to go down that road.

Have to admit very curious as to which bar it was though.....

I surely hope, that all expat bar owners are going the American way, They don´t want an unsatisfied costumer. Because this costumer will tell his fammely, frinds not to go to this place. His fammely is 5 people, and friends is 10. And all of them have 10 friends, who will also tell the same, so soone in a small city, all will know, that this bar have a bad reputation, and will newer come there.
That´s the American way. Have tried it a couble of times, complaining about the food, then you don´t pay, because they know the above. Leo

Hey guys, we're talking about a 100 baht glass here...............nothing more and nothing less. When in Thailand, do as the Thais would do, and simply don't go back. In fact, why not name the bar on here. I for one would then have second thoughts before visiting the place. Greed is something I well and truly detest.

I detest greed also, i bet that 100 baht went strait into the cashiers sky rocket.

I personally would pay and not go back it's not worth getting bent out of shape over two quid if you cause a seen Thai's never forget.
