Suspected 'clamp-down' by new boss at HH Ampher

Post by usual suspect »

This week I believe there's to be another 'meeting' for bar-owners in HH to outline the measures being implemented by the new 'boss' of HH Towers.
Please don't quote me cos I'm not sure but the gist I got was summat like this..
...if bar make problem, they get fine & close 1 day.
Do again,bigger fine,have to close 1 week.
...yeah you see the next 1...3rd time, closed 1 month!,and on each of these occasions the bar may be fined up to 50,000b.
..bit scary if the 'copyright-mafia' hit you for 20-40,000,then along come the Ampher,& hit you again!!
(At this point I expect a rake of replies from 98% of folk on here that don't frequent bars any more & swear by sitting at a concrete table outside their 'soi-shop')
On the other hand,do any bar owners know anymore of this topic? is it to be taken seriously,or just another black-cloud thats here to loom over us?

I belive this is true.
Apparantly Moonlight bar had some trouble (something to do with ladyboys) the other day and was consequently shut down by the police for 1 day.

The weeping willows cry
The mountains dark are jagged teeth
Against a leaden sky.

I'm sure your better half will be on the ball with the info US. If correct then I would expect farang bar owners who have work permits may be called to a meeting at the Towers - along with Thai owners - as has happened in the past.

If we're talking about your Bintabaht type 'beer bars', then I would guess one chair reserved for farangs would be one too many

The invitations are in Thai, the meetings are in Thai, so farang bar owners like my mates send along a staff member.

The skinny on the meeting was it contained nothing new - the shutdown rules have been in place here since I got involved with Mrs S a few years back. The meeting was the usual make face look Im important thing

The idea of engaging with the farang community is probably on the Amphur list just under "clear the soi dogs"... this aint Pattaya or Phuket, so they aint interested.

If any of the officials had any braincells at all they would take a good hard look, see a scad of bars that are now up for sale (10 in AWOL for instance), the distinct lack of walking tourists out and about, and think that maybe throttling the golden goose hard at the moment means less golden eggs.....

ah silly me. TIT!

Misrepresentation of goods? - A customer is entitled to a refund on goods that have been misrepresented, for example, on goods sold on the basis of features they do not have.

In my opinion, hats off to anyone who is willing to try and run a bar in this type of environment. It's different if you're a newcomer, but if you've been here for a good number of years, and you still think you're up for the challenge, then you obviously have balls. Personally, I don't think I've got what it takes to bite your tongue when some jumped up monkey arrives with an attitude problem.
Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact

I've just met with an irate guest house owner who attended the meeting and according to the crackdown some owners are going to have change a few things

My advice if going out for a beer is don't do anything and don't speak to anyone.

Don't move a chair, don't pour your own beer into a glass, don't pick your nose and flick, don't fart poised on one cheek, don't...don't....don't

Golden goose will be on the table for Christmas

Only one bar owner I know of had a legal work permit, but because of taxes, tea money etc, he was losing money.

Sandman you were about right,I had a word with my dragon (the one that breathes fire) tonight & in her words the 'meeting' went OK.
I feared they would turn the screw a couple more notches, but they're holding off for now.

Agreed - but there are also the restaurants with bar which more likely have a farang work permit holder, and come under the same rules when these things happen.
I always used to attend the summons along with 'Heidi' despite the meetings being in Thai - we would take staff to translate. In most cases where the farang is 'unofficial' owner, sending staff is not only sensible - but wise. Otherwise best to show your face and play the game IMO.
Anyway back to wondering how many satang Richard can get under his foreskin....
