Rugby Championship first game as expected, although didn't see it all I saw a score of 51-11 and not long after 51-34 or so. I'll have to watch the entire replay.

Second coming up in a few hours I have SAF by 5...we'll see. Sofa sleeping again tonight no doubt. My dogs think I'm insane.  Pete

Magnificent first half from New Zealand - one of the best halves I've ever seen - I don't think the All Blacks made a mistake, scoring 6 tries before the break. The second half was all about saving face for Oz.

Managed to miss the game(s) yesterday, but The Blackness seemingly once again looking formidable

Looks like being a cricket score when we face them in the Autumn series.......

As for the the Boks, was this a case of them returning to form or more the Pumas playing poorly?

With regards to the Prediction Pool, Pete takes the Yellow Cap for the first round :thumb: The table as it stands: -

A sad loss to New Zealand and world rugby as a whole as Sir Colin Meads dies aged 81. R.I.P. Sir Colin.

"New Zealand coach Steve Hansen led the tributes to All Blacks great Sir Colin Meads, who has died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 81.
Meads played 133 times for the All Blacks between 1957 and 1971, appearing in 55 Tests, and the King Country lock earned an international reputation for his fierce play.
'His achievements in the black jersey are part of the All Blacks legacy and his loss will be felt over the world,' Hansen said.
Meads was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August last year, and died on Sunday morning at Te Kuiti Hospital.
'On behalf of the All Blacks, we'd like to pass on our condolences and sympathy to the family,' Hansen said at a press conference.
'He is a legend of the game, a legend of New Zealand's game, and it is always sad when one of the big Kauri trees fall - and that is what has happened.'
Meads captained the All Blacks in the famous series against the British and Irish Lions in 1971, and was named New Zealand's player of the century by the New Zealand Rugby Football Union in 1999.
Nicknamed 'Pinetree' by team-mate Kevin Briscoe in 1958, Meads' reputation for fearless and tough play was sealed when he played an entire match with a broken arm in 1970.
'This is an incredibly sad day,' All Blacks captain Kieran Read said.
'Sir Colin was an icon of our game. I met him a few times and he was always keen to share a beer and have a yarn.
'He is an absolute legend, not only in New Zealand rugby, but in world rugby.
'On behalf of all players, our thoughts go out to his family at this time.'
Meads was involved in rugby all his life, going into coaching and management, as well as administration, after his playing days were over.
'His ability to play the game first and foremost and his passion for rugby long after he stopped playing - he was a coach; he was a manger for the All Blacks, and at grassroots he was involved,' Hansen added.
'He didn't just play for the All Blacks; he didn't just play for King County or his club; he just gave back in many other ways and he is true rugby."

Australian rugby - going from bad to worse..... NOT good for the game

WA Premier Threatens to Bankrupt ARU Over Axing of Super Rugby's Force

"The Western Australian government has threatened to bankrupt the Australian Rugby Union if the Western Force are not reinstated. Premier Mark McGowan says the state government is getting legal advice and the options include suing for restitution of more than $100m, which would bankrupt the ARU, or suing for reinstatement.

“My ultimatum to the ARU is this – reinstate the Force or we’ll use every tool at our disposal to get our money back and if that means the ARU goes bankrupt, so be it,” he said on Monday.

McGowan said the ARU had acted with great disrespect to WA taxpayers and if they went bankrupt, that was their own fault. The premier has written a letter to ARU chief Bill Pulver saying rugby union is considered to be an integral part of WA sport.

He said $17m was spent on new training headquarters for the Force in Mount Claremont and $1.5m for an annual Road Safety Commission sponsorship deal. He said $95m was also spent on nib Stadium, which A-League club Perth Glory use too."

ARU rejects $50m offer from Andrew Forrest to save Western Force

https://thewest.com.au/sport/rugby-unio ... 8785197001

The mining magnate met with Australian Rugby Union officials in Adelaide on Tuesday.
The Australian Rugby Union will miss out on tens of millions of dollars after refusing to budge on their decision to axe the Western Force.
But the cash-strapped governing body have agreed to help billionaire Andrew Forrest develop a new international competition that will ensure the survival of the Perth-based franchise.
Forrest met with ARU officials in Adelaide on Tuesday in a bid to get them to overturn their decision to axe the Force.

It's reported Forrest offered the ARU up to $50 million to reinstate the Force.
He also gave an "unconditional guarantee" that there would be no financial risk to the ARU if it was to retain the Force in Super Rugby.
But the mind-blowing offer fell on deaf ears.

ARU chairman Cameron Clyne, and board members John Eales and Brett Robinson represented Australian rugby's governing body at the meeting.
Former Wallaby John Welborn and former ARU board member Geoff Stooke were at the meeting to help Forrest push his case.
But while the ARU didn't budge when it came to their Super Rugby decision, they are apparently willing to help Forrest create an Asian rugby competition for the Force to participate in.
Representatives of Forrest released a statement saying: "The ARU committed to working with the Western Force ... to develop a new international competition.

"This will be based in Western Australia, with a focus firmly on the Indo Pacific region and a time zone that WA shares.
"This is a region containing 60 per cent of the world's population, which has a burgeoning appetite for participation in international sport."
The Force's preference is to stay in Super ranks.

RugbyWA, backed by Forrest, are appealing the Force's axing to the NSW Supreme Court.
They will find out on Wednesday whether their appeal will go ahead.
Forrest gave away $400 million to charity earlier this year, and it's believed his financial offer to the ARU would have been the biggest donation in Australian sporting history.
But the ARU said their hands were simply tied after SANZAAR had already eliminated the prospect of having a 16-team Super competition for a number of reasons.

"These factors included the extensive cost and limited appeal of a 16-team round-robin competition, player welfare issues due to extra travel requirements, and the loss of popular home and away 'derbies' in each country," Clyne said.
"We were genuinely appreciative of Andrew's generous offer to back the Western Force and Australian Rugby.
"However, given the position we are in, we are unable to work towards retaining five teams in Super Rugby.

"Andrew brings a lot of innovative thinking to the table and we discussed a number of possibilities for the future of the game.
"Some of this discussion focused on competitions and the pathways for young players to the highest levels of the game, the community game and women's rugby."

It's understood that during the meeting, the ARU confirmed the future participation of WA rugby teams in an expanded National Rugby Championships competition.
Western Australian Liberal Senator Linda Reynolds says she will call for a Senate Inquiry into the ARU's decision to cull the Western Force.
And the WA State Government has threatened to sue the ARU for more than $100 million as compensation for all the money they poured into redeveloping nib Stadium and building the Force's headquarters.

Seems there may be some hope for Western Force after all: -

Western Force Win Right to Appeal Hearing Over Super Rugby Axing

"A NSW Supreme Court judge has granted the Western Force the right to appeal the Australian Rugby Union’s decision to axe the team from the Super Rugby competition.
Western Force to consider new Asian competition if Super Rugby appeal fails
Read more
Justice David Hammerschlag said on Wednesday he had read written submissions from both the Force and the ARU and he believed an appeal should be heard. The judge said he would go straight into hearing the appeal on Wednesday.
The news comes as a big boost for the Force, whose survival hopes were dealt a blow on Tuesday when the ARU rejected a multi-million dollar from billionaire Andrew Forrest to save the franchise.
Forrest made an offer to the ARU – believed to be worth $50 million – to pump funds into Australian rugby if they reversed their decision to axe the Force. But the governing body refused to budge, with the matter set to be decided in the courts.
RugbyWA are arguing the ARU had no right to axe the Force under the terms of the alignment deal that was struck last year. In that deal, which was effectively a takeover, the ARU guaranteed the Force’s future until at least the end of the broadcast deal in 2020.
But the ARU successfully argued in arbitration that the broadcast deal has since been renegotiated, given the competition will go from 18 teams to 15. With the broadcast deal tweaked because of the fewer number of teams, the ARU claim they were within their rights to axe the Force."
