ANA AIRWAYS VS THAI AIR BUS

Post by Mongo Slade »

I've been to Japan three times and Thailand once, each time on ANA airways, which I feel is great airline. Good service, good food and attractive attendants.

I just booked a flight for July 5th to Thailand on the Thai airbus out of New York, can I get some feedback on this airline while I still have time to cancel ?

The reason for the change in airlines is that with ANA I can't get a direct flight to Bangkok from Washington DC or New York, also I would have a three hour layover in Japan and the flight arrives in Bangkok at approx 11pm.

I assume you are booked on one of Thai’s new 360 Airbus. Thai’s business class cabin in this aircraft is very good. Thai have gone out of their way to design a very good business class section in this aircraft. The seat converts into an angled flat bed (similar to Qantas’ skybed), and is otherwise comfortable and spacious. The in-flight service is generally very good. Meals are very good as is the selection of wines.

One small area where Thai is lacking on long haul routes is that there are no snacks available between meals (unlike BA or Qantas) (hopefully Thai will soon move to rectify my complaint about this). Overall, I think you will be very pleased with your flight.

The same cannot be said for most of the business class cabins on Thai’s 747 fleet. The 747 fleet is undergoing a refurbishment. If you strike one of the older style 747 cabins you will find a rather unsatisfactory traditional seat which is very outdated. In-flight service is otherwise very good.

Hey mate.afraid I am splitting hairs here but no such thing as A360 and Airbus do not yet have new fleet items. A350 has not yet flown off the drawing board but competes with so called Boeing Dreamliner and first prototype of A380 is flying with first delivery to SIA delayed.I think you mean the long distance version of the A340

Have flown from Australia with both Thai and Signapore Airlines and must say that both of those airlines are very good. Last year we flew from Perth with Value Air (Now part of Jetstar Asia) and found them to be just a good.

I have found that some of the most unenjoyable flights that I have had from Australia (both domestic & overseas) have been with Qantas (bad service, rude attendants etc).

I have always found that the Asian Airlines always try to be that little bit more helpful and always try and make your flight a pleasureable experience. Perhaps their staff training instills in them that they are there to serve the public and make sure that those people travel with their respective airline again.

I think that is something that Qantas have either forgot to teach their staff, or the staff just choose to ignore their training instructions.

Yes, there is most certainly free beer and wine, they do have inflight movies, but not sure with Thai if you get the individual ones in the back of the seats (definitley do with Singapore).

As it will be late in the evening that you arrive, it may be an idea to pre book an airport pick up, as I am not sure of the taxi situation late at night.

If you are staying in BKK, you should be able to get your hotel to organise one for you
If you are stayingt out of town, it is still worth a try with your hotel to get them to organise one for you.
Have a great trip

No seatback screens on Thai economy 747 but there are on the Airbus. It is the play on demand type so you decide just when you want to view a film etc.Service will be very good and friendly.

I agree with the comment re BA club class. As well as great service (and a good range of snacks between meals), one big advantage is its fully horizontal flat bed. I also find the seating arrangement, one seat facing forward with the other seat facing back, works really well.

I agree 100% with Chelsea I fly from Australia with Thai whenever i go overseas, i can only afford cattle class but it s@#*s all over the equivelant seating if i flew with qantas. I cant imagaine thais service been worse out of new work(dont know for sure, just pissing in the wind here  ), if anything it probably s@#*s all over flying with them out of Australia. Luv to try it one day to find out :D

I have just come across a travel site, SmartTravelAsia.com. There is an excellent survey of different airlines.
