Affordable Health Insurance For Expats

Post by Papaya »

Yes, I probably sound like many of the adverts I've responded to over the years. However, I am one of the many expats who can't get health insurance, or if I did, I'd soon run out of money, and many treatments would be excluded, so I've not bothered. I believe about 2/3rds of all Expats in Thailand are in the same boat.

I have recently heard about this http://www.insurance-in-thailand.com/af ... -thailand/ . I’ve also seen Hua Hin Today urging it's readers to register.

It costs nothing, and as there is no obligation I’ve already registered. I’d like to know what the rest of you guys think.

Sounds like a good scheme if it comes into force. I have registered

I registered a couple of weeks ago.
As of today I have heard nothing, not even an acknowledgement that my registration has been received.

Looks OK, but it’s based on treatment at Hua Hin hospital. Didn’t B.B. manage to register himself for the B30 scene there using the number from his yellow book or now he has an I’d card that?

If by jumping through a few hoops you can get this for free why would you pay B3000 per month?

If B.B. is me, no I didn't manage to get registered in that way. I do use Hua Hin Hospital these days and am happy with their abilities/service.

I used to use Bangkok Hospital, but would have to be really desperate to go back there.

Can you use your ID card to access the B30 scheme at Hua Hin hospital or do you just pay the full bill?

As far as I am aware, non-Thais do not qualify for the 30 baht scheme and have to pay the full amount.

Pay the bill. Mind you, the difference is vast. A condition that cost me £6K at BH cost about £30 at HHH. Resolved in days, instead of the months that BH let it drag on. I will only go to BH these day to visit friends.

I honestly believe the likes of BH makes insurance unaffordable for many of us.

Agree with BB on the cost and effectiveness of BH, and don't patronize them any more. I was prescribed designer meds for a normal condition that totally wiped out my insurance limits so had to pay over and above. A couple of days later went to Mayo Hospital in Bangkok and got it sorted for less than a thousand baht.
Though I qualify for Social Welfare medical treatment, I do pay full price at any government hospital if I am in need of treatment.

I've seen this on Facebook. I haven't received the e-mail yet - just wondering if anybody else has.
