I think I saw a price for knee /hip replacement advertised in BKK hospital of 390,000. As for quality, I don't know of anyone who has had it done there.

If your doing any surgery check out the BKK hospital in Bangkok rather than in Hua HIn. Your friend might also google: knee replacement surgery in Thailand. I've had one surgery done in BKK, Hua Hin and never again.

I don't normally have a good word for Bangkok Hospital, but I can't fault them for the 2 operations I had here in Hua Hin (nothing as major as a knee replacement though).

Out of curiosity, I looked up the price of knee replacement in the UK. It states the lowest as 8,750 with the highest at 15,410 with an average of 11,434.
BKK Hospital (according to a post above) is not far short of 10,000 quid. I'd have thought the difference would have been greater.

I had a knee replacement about 15 months ago at Bangkok Hospital. Unfortunately it has not been a success . Istill have weakness in my knee albeit no pain. The care i received after the was good , the pysio was poor. One week of 5 to ten minutes a day which is not enough. The surgoen visited me once in that week and i was given an appointment to see him a month later. Any phsio after your discharge you arrange your self and pay accordingly.
On price the op was advertised at 360000 bth but my bill came in at over 800,000. On querying i was given lots of reasons why it was so none of which i recognised. My insurance paid the bill with no queries to me . I discussed it with my insurance broker and he was not surprised. He informed me that some of his clients were offered free flights home to the UK and France to have there ops there all be it these were heart conditions but still paid by insurance.
My freind back in Scotland had the same knee replacement for 8000 pounds and included all phsio. The physio is the most important aspect as i have since found out. If i were having again i would go to Petcherat Hospital in Petchaburi they are not as money orientated .

I thought healthcare in the UK and Canada was free. Silly me. I had TKR in America three years ago. The average hospital charge for a total knee replacement (TKR) in the United States is $49,500. A partial knee replacement (PKR) typically costs about 10 to 20 percent less than a TKR. The main reason is that the operation requires a shorter hospital stay: an average of 2.3 days, compared to 3.4 days for a TKR. I had insurance and the after surgery PT was arranged by the doctor who did the surgery. I had in-home PT for a week or two. I did personal PT for about 6 months. Insurance covered most of it but my co-pay was $35 per session (3 per week). I still have weakness in the leg and suffer occasional pain. The doctors had me on Oxicontin for about 8 months. I was also given Percodan and Percocet (at different times) for a total of about nine months. As soon as I could, I cut the cord on the drugs but the pain of the surgery was worse than the pain of bone on bone of the knee pre-surgery. I don't ever want to go through it again. 390K Baht works out to about $12,000. That is a bargain compared with America. PT will depend on who your therapist is and if they have experience with knee replacement surgeries. I cannot speak to Thailand results but most Asian doctors (I have heard) are trained in the west. So I would suspect they are decent. Outcome is very dependent on the patient preparing before the surgery and rehabbing after. I did a lousy job of strengthening the muscles around the knee before the surgery and it has cost me in terms of rehab time and pain.

In general the quoted prices at BKK hospital are NOT much of a guide to what you will be billed.

It is in the UK.
I know several people that have had the procedure done by the NHS.
The waiting times varied but no longer than 5 months for any of them.

I have a friend that has had both knees replaced.
Waited 4 months for the first, had the second knee done just over a year later.
Both ops were done in the same clinic and by the same surgeons that do the private ones :?
