Liver Tonic

Post by StevePIraq »

I and I am sure sure many on this forum partake in some of the amber fluid, often a little too much at times. never during daytime I may add.

I am feeling a little worse for wear over the last few days and I have been looking for something to help. I came across various liver tonics, both tablet and liquid on the internet but have no idea if they work or are just a scam, like so many things on the internet.

Can anyone make any recommendations for a product and maybe recommend a local supplier.

THanks in advance.

As a fellow partaker of amber nector ....Alcohol leads to a drop in the blood sugar level. This may lead to tiredness, moodiness, weakness and shakiness [DT’s] also leads to dehydration of the body.Alcohol dilates and expands blood vessels which cause headaches.

I read somewhere on this forum having a large glass of water with tea spoon of salt , and one tea spoon of suger is an excellent way rehydrate the body..Hope this helps :)

Sugar only gives a quick hit to give you a boost of energy. I don't take salt with food as there is enough in most foods anyway. Thai meals are loaded with salt and sugar so I steer clear of Thai food. One article recommended fresh lemon in warm water so I have been taking that lately. I drink lots of water every day.

Still looking for a tonic but not keen on Thai/Chinese products as few if any go through any formal testing.

All suggestions are very welcome.

Another home remedy is a teaspoon of Turmeric mixed in a glass of water, as it has powerful medicinal values, besides giving color to curries.

Have a word with your local Pharmacy about Electrolytes. It's a pick-me-up powder to mix with water. There are various brands mixed with minerals and usually some type of flavour. I use one called D-Lyte but there are various brands out there. Sporty types seem to use them for a lift up.

Many of these sports drinks contain ingredients like sucrose syrup, glucose-fructose syrup, citric acid, salt, sodium citrate, monopotassium phosphate and StevePIraq mentioned he does'nt want salt and suger.

Another old home remedy is a Bombay Oyster consisting of a raw egg, touch Worcestershire sauce, vinegar.

Turmeric is supposed to be a great liver healer, 'though apparently the dose would need to be fairly hefty to gain any benefit. Maybe worth researching on Google;naresh/dried cheap as chips here, e.g. Makro.
What worked for me (though quite possibly placebo effect?) was milk thistle tablets. Somehow for years I was getting away with drinking a lot of beer, every day (7-stone frame, female, previous hep A infection) yet still living a very active working/social life. My liver function is currently fine.
This has reminded me that I've been meaning to start taking the pills again, because honestly although I should have been constantly hungover I always felt great when I was on milk thistle, but probably a bit expensive to buy here(?)

MLS is correct; Milk Thistle is a liver cleanser and detoxifier. Check iherb.com. They ship to Thailand from the U.S. I've been dealing with them for years. It generally takes about 2 weeks to receive a package. They have discount prices and the shipping is via DHL/Thai post. They also have articles about health conditions and suggestions for help. I would get a combination herbal liver cleanse. iherb lists all the ingredients, recommended dosages and buyer reviews. Even with shipping it's cheaper than buying in Thailand and the quality is much better than the imports you can buy here. They also have food, teas, coffee, etc. Most of the items I buy are about 1/2 the price of Thai imports.

Dandelion root is a quick way to eliminate toxins.

A good remedy for detoxing, especially after a heavy sesh! is raw vegetable juice.

There is an OTC supplement called Samarin here, available in 70 or 140mg for liver cleansing (it contains Silymarin, you can Google it for liver benfits). I also take a Thai herbal supplement that is supposed to help, will check name when I get home.
Start the day with a glass of warm water with freshly squeezed lemon juice before drinking/eating anything else.

HD, I've ordered from iherb when in Singapore without problems but have been worried there would be problems importing into Thailand. I have had a shipment of chocolates containing humic and fulvic acid rejected by the Thai FDA (probably because they have no way to test these, therefore reject. DHL confirmed this).
I will try iherb in Thailand once the supplements I ordered through them when in Singapore run out. :thanks:

Does anyone know of an online site for purchasing in Thailand, I have been taking Hepacap 500 prescribed by a doctor and was hoping to buy direct rather than hospital/clinic prices. iherb do not have.
