There is also Dr. Parait (sp) near Market village. Did many successful lens replacements on friends and family.

There are several types of lenses available. Suggest first research the net to identify options so can discuss with your surgeon.

I also had cataract surgery with Dr. Pairat more than 3 years ago and never regretted it. Since then I've never had to use any form of glasses (except sunglasses) not even reading glasses. The operation takes a matter of minutes and you're in and out the same morning. I have friends who have also had it done with Pairat and have nothing but praise for him. His after care is excellent and I would highly recommend his services.

I believe it's the same. Rutnin is of course more expensive and has the added inconvenience of travel to BKK and overnight stay. With Pairat who normally operates on Sunday, you can be drinking a cold beer at your favourite watering hole by lunchtime.

I also had lens replacement surgery just over 4 years ago - mine was done at Rutnin Eye Hospital in Bangkok and I was and still am absolutely delighted with the result.
Because the hospital decided I should be treated as an in-patient for cataract problems, my health insurance company at the time covered the entire cost.

Rutnin has many varied prices depending on requirements, their price list is 2 pages long!

Cheapest for both eyes is around 74,000 Baht.

The surgery they recommended for me was around 134,000 which they discounted to 99,000 Baht.

Lens replacement is what it says - this is what I had done - and the results are fantastic and permenant.
Your own lenses are emulsified by ultrasound and removed in total. They are replaced with what are effectively implanted contact lenses.
Laser or lasik is a procedure to reshape the cornea - and is not always permenant.

Most insurance companies will foot the bill for this surgery provided that you are an 'in-patient' i.e. stay in over night and the procedure has been diagnosed as a cure for cataracts.

I have to give Dr. Pairat another 'thumbs up'. My mother of 92 had cataract surgery in the UK about 3 years ago. Sometimes after replacement lens surgery, a film can develop over the eye reducing your visibility to almost nil. It's quite a simple laser job and takes less than a minute. My mother waited a couple of months for the NHS to give her an appointment. When contacted, they said it may be some weeks/months before they could fit her in. Anyway, she's here for her annual 3 month holiday. Took her to Dr. Pairat. No waiting and the job was done. A free follow-up appointment to check the result. No problem. Dr. Pairat is now my mum's new 'hero'!! Said that the procedure and after care beats the NHS hands down. She'll be talking about him for the foreseeable future.
Well done again, Dr. Pairat.

Another big "thumbs up" for Dr Pairat. I've been living in a constant state of "fog" for the past 6 months or so. Had the left eye done by him as an in patient at BKK HH Hospital. Bupa had already pre approved the estimated 42,000baht cost. Final bill came to just over 37K.

Thick lens reading glasses consigned to the drawer and enjoying seeing again in wonderful HD.

Right eye being done in 4 weeks.

Some had criticized Dr Pairat in the past (RIP) but as far as I'm concerned he did a totally professional job with excellent patient relations and follow up checks. I did consider Rutnin Eye Hospital but what with the excellent reviews on this thread I decided against it, why shell out the extra expense when we have an excellent option right here on our doorstep.
