Fungus Infection

Post by Name Taken »

Does anyone else get fungus infections on the their skin sometimes?
I never got a fungus infection when I lived in the U.S., I think it has to do with high heat and humidity here in Thailand.

You may find its something as simple as not drying yourself properly after a shower coupled with the heat/humidity.

From the US too and have had some fungus and Staph infections here. There seems to be something foreign to us everywhere in Thailand. Just have to keep wounds and body very clean to keep these things from attacking our immune systems. Never had that concern in US but over here in the tropical environment much different.

Are you sure it is definitely a fungal infection? Bangkok Hospital were treating me for a fungal infection for a couple of months before I got a second opinion at Petcharat Hospital. It wasn't fungal, and Petcharat had the problem cured in 3 days - saving me the cost of numerous more weekly visits being treated for the wrong ailment.

Try using a bit of fresh Aloe Vera.

Rub onto infected area. Give it two or three days, if that doesn't help, seek medical advice cos' I ain't a doctor.

I have seen a Doctor about it in the past and I use a ketoconazole cream to treat recurrences.

I saw several doctors at Bangkok Hospital who agreed it was a fungal infection and treated me accordingly. It was only when Petcharat did the correct tests, which were cheaper than Bangkok Hospital's 'eyeballs', that I received the correct treatment.

I too, get those infections whilst being in Thailand. They are red elevated rings with a dry white center and get as big as a 10 Baht coin.
I get them on my forearms and the insides of my upper legs. There isn't much of an itch, but they look a bit disgusting.
A treatment with an antimycotic/antifungal creme removes them after a couple of days.
First I thought it came from cuddling the soi dogs, but I also think it comes with the heat and humidity, as I only get them either in Thailand or on hot periods during the German summer.

One of the problems is that towels/ bedding etc is washed at ambient temp. In the UK we tend to wash these much hotter which kills fungal spores. You are constantly re infecting yourself unless you do this. It's on my list to replace the washing machine with a Europian style one, but being a YORKSHIRE man I'm waiting for it to break down! Bloody thing looks like it's going to go on forever...555!

Lots of washing machines in the UK now have a 30c wash programme to save energy - guess what the water temperature is out here much of the time.........yes about 30c!!

And the advice from any medic on diagnosing fungal infections is not to use the Eco setting and to wash above 60C

I hope that 60c is ok. We only use that setting for bedding, towels and white underwear. Even at 60 your locally bought colored clothes would fade in no time and any elastic band parts be bad quickly. The only choices on the Samsung we have is cold, 30-60-90. 90 is really over the top unless you have some whites that need super treatment. Pete
