In Canada and other Commonwealth countries where GPs are the main engine that drives the system, there are, particularly in small communities GPs, who have a 'special interest" in a special area. I know of one community, for instance , where 2 GPs manage the renal dialysis unit. With modern communication with teaching hospitals this can work well. Tele-medicine where a specialist hundreds of miles away can interact with a pt in a GPs office have made specialty care much more available in rural areas. Of course little of this exists in the Land of Smirks.

GPs are not specialists, that's why they're called GPs.
Dr. Pairat is a GP but his specialty is eyes. Just because someone is a specialist in one area doesn't prevent them from being a General Practitioner.
Sorry, in the U.S., my only frame of reference, GPs are not specialists and vice versa. GPs will refer you to a specialist and specialists treat only their specialty. Gotta pass the money around.
In the UK after medical school you take a specialty for a few years and then train as a GP. My British doctor in Dubai was an excellent GP and also did minor surgeries (excising fatty lumps from under skin, etc.), but their specialty was skin fungus, particularly nails, and they used to lecture on it even while a GP. But as you say, they don't practise their specialty in the GP practise (I'm sure not even allowed to).

Been to Doc Saran today at Soi 51 clinic, he is now only open 1pm to 5pm on Tuesday and Thursday, he also consults at San Paulo on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

No need for appointment but get there early as he fills up with Thai patients quite quickly.

I was there at 12:30, gate unlocked at 1pm, doc arrived 2 minutes later and saw me straight away, 30 minutes consultation 620 Baht including three lots of mediation including antibiotics.

Really nice guy. No receipts issued so forget using insurance.

In the west in a large GP practice some of the GPs will have a "Special interest" one area of medicine in which they have taken extra training. Many women GPs will do an extra year in a Children's hospital before entering GP and other GPs will refer to her if they have a challenging Pediatricproblem.

I understand, and after visiting the location again that Dr Saran is no longer offering his excellent clinic facilities in soi 51.
Does anyone know if he is still consulting at San Paulo hospital on a weekly basis, thank you for any positive responses.

Since Dr Saran is no longer providing care at his medical clinic does anyone have a recommendation for another General Practice doctor at a medical clinic in Hua Hin?
I am trying to avoid having to go to a hospital for routine preventative care.

Dr, Sumet clinic Petchkasem Road opposite Soi 80, next to the Kodak shop. He specializes in Peadiatrics but is also a good GP for routine medical care. Have used him a number of times.

Go to the morning clinic, is not busy as most kids are in school. Also easier to park along Petchkasem in the mornings

I'd second Dr Sumet. He has natural English and always has good advice. He's not afraid to ask if you have any questions and if he doesn't know the answer, will read the latest research then and there.
